We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivana Tarraza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ivana, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Definitely a strong support system from my family and friends, they definitely uplift my spirits and lend a helping hand whenever it’s necessary.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a series of illustrations that combines the human anatomy with nature. It all began as a hobby until I published them on my personal social media and because of the incredible feedback I received I decided to produce prints for sale. One of the biggest challenges is flourishing in a male-dominated art industry, but you just have to give it your all and not let that discourage you. Along the way I’ve learned and continue to learn patience both with my artwork on a technical level and with some people that we encounter during the journey. My art comes from a place of fascination and curiosity over the human body and the beauty in nature that surrounds us. I always enjoy the look of realization when somebody looks at my art and quickly understands the association and their face brightens up, it’s one of my favorite aspects of it all.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, I love so many places in Miami! I particularly like Wynwood because everything is there in one area, you can see some amazing murals around the streets or at Wynwood Walls and visit some amazing galleries, have a craft beer in Veza Sur, or a cocktail and dinner over at Astra. Most importantly shop local goods by local artists and makers at Wynwood Shop. Everything is there in one place you can walk everywhere or take a bike or scooter and ride around, it’s so convenient!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to the incredible artist and muralist Alexis Diaz who has always supported by art from the beginning and taught me so much during my time working with him.
