We had the good fortune of connecting with J Brazyy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Well I’ve always been musically gifted with vocals and instruments. Ever since the age of 3 I’ve been playing drums and eventually as I got older I started picking up more and more instruments and took vocal lessons. My musical idol is the late florida rapper “XXXTENTACION” and he really inspired to chase my dreams. To be honest, it was never my true intention to actually pursue anything serious! In December of 2019 when I wrote and recorded my first song “ROSES”, I didn’t really expect it to do anything major because I wasn’t known as an artist or had any type of buzz around my name. Then I noticed it started gaining a lot of streams on Spotify. I believe within the first month I had reached around 7.1k streams and before I knew it I was getting added to multiple playlists. To this day I’m still shocked that it did so well upon first release and now it has over 28k total streams! I do this for the youth…I’m only 21 years old but I’ve been through a lot. My goal for my music is to heal the broken hearted and to give those misunderstood kids a voice who feel like they’ve never had one. That’s my goal. That’s why I do this.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a 21 year old upcoming artist from a small town in the south suburbs of Illinois. My musical genre consists of a mix of HipHop, RnB, Pop, and some Alternative influences.

What sets me apart from everyone else is my persona and my sound. You honestly won’t find another artist that arranges their songs and subjects like I do. I’m not the stereotypical “Dreadheaded Rapper”, I believe I’m very misunderstood and have my own mystique within who I am and my music.

One thing I can definitely say I’m most proud of is how much time and work I’ve put into my craft and seeing it pay off. It was times when I first started off on instagram and I would only get 5 likes and had about 26 followers and those would be family members! I’ve never been one to pay attention to the numbers or been big on “clout” . As long as someone besides myself sees what I do then I know I’m doing a good job.

I got where I am today by my perseverance and dedication. I never stopped grinding and I will never stop. It was times where I had to take a small leave of absence to get my mental right and come back stronger but I’ve never threw in the towel.

No, it was not easy at all. Staying up late nights making sure all of my music was mixed correctly, cover art, then to make content that would make people want to come back and listen. It was very challenging but just like with everything in life, the more you do it, the better you become at it.

I’ve learned so much over the past 3 years. Just learning how networking with the correct people can put you through doors unimaginable. I’ve met so many great and talented artist that I’ve worked with and to this day I have great relationships with everyone and I believe these will be life long friendships.

What I want the world to know about my brand and story… there’s a reason behind why the “broken heart” is my signature logo. It’s a reminder…a reminder that no matter how many times you get knocked down or how many times you may get your feelings hurt that YOU have the power to keep going. We all go through challenges and we all face adversity, but it’s how you respond that shows your true character. My story isn’t fully written yet and that’s ok, but I can rest assure the chapters that have already closed have molded me into the person I am today and look where I am! Anything is possible. Just keep the faith.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man where do I start?! I think I would invite them to come chill at “The Bean” in downtown Chicago. That’s always been one of my favorite places to visit. I have a multitude of restaurants I would take them to. One of them being “Freddy’s” which is a burger place in Orland Park. As far as a night out in the town, we’re definitely stopping at “Club O” which is the hottest club around.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, I cannot let this opportunity pass by without giving a HUGE shoutout my uncle/manager Joseph Franklin of “Worship Free Ministries”. He has been by my side helping me chase my dreams for 10 years now! You rock Uncle Joe!
