We had the good fortune of connecting with J. T. John Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J. T., how do you think about risk?
Fear is one of the biggest causes for us not taking risks. “What if it doesn’t work out.” “I look silly doing this.” “I’m not smart enough.” “I don’t have the money.” These are all mental blocks stem from our personal life experiences, that stop us from pursuing the career or life truly want. Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Michael Jordan, Kanye West, & Muhammad Ali are all legendary men who all had to ignore life disadvantages and comforts and take risks to become who they are today. One risk today could change not only our lives, but the lives of the generations following behind us.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel we are all artist or creators in some way, but not all of us have tapped into that version of ourselves yet. Our talents, our gifts, our contributions to the world are all our artistic expressions waiting to be unraveled. I balance my life between multiple businesses. I work in the field of chemistry, in corporate America, which can be very stressful at times. Even still, I find it important to creatively find my own path. Being able to share my authentic self is what keeps me pursuing my artistic career and how my athletic line, “PROFILE” came about. Devoting so much time and energy into growing and perfecting a company that isn’t yours, makes you work even harder on your own dreams.
My thought process behind starting my own clothing brand was to make clothes that not only are stylish, but that are also functional, transitional throughout the day, and made for everyone. As a former athlete, I’ve had years of hands-on knowledge of what performance gear works best, and incorporated style to it. The classic look of PROFILE can be worn to the gym, having lunch with friends, or just lounging around the house in comfort. When we look and feel good, it sends a message to the brain saying, “step it up! Go Harder!” PROFILE does just that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the city of Miami there are so many places to visit that could make for lasting memories. I have lived in Miami for almost 6 years now, and have experienced so many amazing places and events that there is no way i could name them all.
I would let others experience early morning runs on South Beach when the city is still fast asleep. I would introduce them to lavish dinners at places such as, Queens Miami where they wouldn’t only have options of amazing food, but the ambiance is just as extravagant if not better. We would would go shopping in the Design District and have cocktails at the elegant restaurant Swan. For a adrenalin rush we would go parasailing or jet skiing behind the Mondrian South Beach, where the sunset reflecting off the water is breathtaking. For community involved fun, I would see what my friends at Shoe Gallery were up to. The owner, Danny, is always having movie nights, morning runs, or supporting local business in form. The cool thing about Miami is there is something for everyone, depending on what you enjoy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is no way I could give that credit to just one entity in my life. Between my coaches throughout my athletic career, my mentors, or my PROFILE team, they all play an intricate part in my success. Out of all, my family deserves the most recognition.
