We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaime Sturgis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaime, what do you attribute your success to?
Authenticity. If you do not believe in what you are selling, your customers wont either. I am born and raised in South Florida, hence the name of the company Native Realty. Growing up here, I have developed a deep appreciation for South Florida and truly believe its the greatest place to live, work and play. I have had a unique perspective on what South Florida has and also what we currently lack from a Retail, Restaurant and Hospitality perspective, which has allowed us to help design some of the most popular neighborhoods in South Florida through a handpicked roster of tenants. Some of these neighborhoods include Wynwood, Flagler Village, and Progresso to name a few. At Native Realty we are the curators of these neighborhoods but also the consumers. We patron the local businesses, we support them with exposure and media, and we are their end consumers so we have a very unique perspective on the market and are constantly getting real-time feedback from the customers in these markets of what they want to see next. Neighborhoods are a constant evolution and if you are not living, eating, and breathing them you will never truly be apart of them. We are constantly pushing the envelope to develop the next emerging neighborhood and are excited to continue designing the future of south florida’s commercial real estate.
What should our readers know about your business?
Native Realty is a full service real estate brokerage focused on Leasing & Investment Sales servicing Miami through Palm Beach. We focus on urban core and emerging neighborhoods and our specialty is boutique execution paired with institutional firepower. We are intentionally boutique to maintain a white glove approach and hand-pick and vet all of our brokers to maintain the highest standards.
I started my real estate career 13 years ago in Wynwood. At the time Wynwood was not what you see today. I remember taking clients out on tours, professing that this was going to be the next big neighborhood, and then gun shots ringing out nearby, needless to say the prospective tenants were not sold. I learned a lot in those years and was inspired by the Tony Goldman’s of the world. I took those lessons and continue to apply them to this day. Since then we have continued to develop several of South Florida’s hottest emerging neighborhoods, we have played an integral role in the development of Flagler Village handling nearly every single lease and investment sale in the neighborhood over the last several years and are very proud of what its become and even more excited to see where it goes next. In the meantime we are working on several more new neighborhoods for clients and are equally excited to see them come to life.
South Florida is demanding, and deserves, more authentic neighborhoods anchored in local and regional operators that help build the sense of community and connection that locals and visitors alike yearn for.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Flagler Village would be my first stop, you can get the best Italian food in South Florida at Heritage, followed by an organic juice at JB&C and finish off the night with a night-cap at Glitch which is a retro arcade bar. They are all located next to each other in a development we designed and leased called The Hive in Flagler Village. From there I would head north to Studio City / 13th Street, which has a great mixture of bars, restaurants, and local retailers. Head a few minutes north and stop at Shoppes of Wilton Manors to check out “The Drive” which is a great collection of local restaurants and retailers. After that I would head over to Lauderdale by The Sea which has a great local beach town feel and is very relaxed. From there I would head to Breakers Avenue on Fort Lauderdale Beach which has some great restaurants with a more European vibe to them.
If you are heading down to Miami I would dedicate a full day to Wynwood, its a cultural experience and the art never ceases to amaze. Sunset Harbor is one of my favorite neighborhoods on Miami Beach, as well as South of Fifth. Upper East side has some great restaurants, and you can’t forget to stop by Buena Vista and the Design District to get your window shopping in.
Delray and Atlantic Avenue are a must as you head north, as is the warehouse district in Palm Beach. We are finalizing some amazing concepts at the AKA Hotel we are leasing in Downtown West Palm Beach as well so be sure to stop by and check them out when they open soon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank you to my parents who instilled a fierce work ethic in me and showed me that anything is possible and to my beautiful wife for being my ride or die, best friend, and constant source of support and motivation.
