We had the good fortune of connecting with Jako (Diego Jacome) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jako, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The time and effort that you must dedicate after your work hours, your day does not end after you get home, you have to continue working, stay awake, and the next day continue working early. The physical wear and tear involved in tattooing for long periods of time. I think that many people believe that creativity is something that artists have innately, but it requires a lot of dedication and study and this takes a long time to be able to do something original.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Having gotten to where I am, in a very short time, in the world of tattooing, makes me feel proud, I know that I still have a lot to learn and develop, it was not easy, there were many challenges and they will continue to exist. It has crossed my mind several times to give up, but here I am, I had to leave my country and my family aside in order to better develop myself as an artist. But what I have learned, although it sounds trite, is to never give up no matter what the rest tells you, work hard and when things get difficult the only thing you can do is keep creating. The most important thing is what my mom once told me. life is not always full of happiness, the moments of happiness are not many and that is why you must work so that those moments are many, many more.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The truth is that I am new in the city and I don’t know many places but what I have known so far has been incredible, Miami is a city full of friendly people, and from all over the world. If I had to choose a place that I know so far it would be Wynwood, it has a lot of art on the walls and in all its stores.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people behind my achievements. I have been lucky enough to have many mentors, I would not finish mentioning all those who have been behind my career, but the person to whom I owe my achievements is my Mom, thanks to her I am who I am. And without the encouragement my Wife has given me, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. I am very grateful to all of them.
