We had the good fortune of connecting with John Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The success of my brand had come from persistence and organic growth. My passion is to create the best cookies and desserts anyone ever had. This is proven with every order and the customized desserts surpassing customers expectations. Reed Family Baking will be a household name sooner rather than later.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Reed Family Baking is a home style dessert bakery based out of Los Angeles. Specializing in custom made cookies we have over 13 cookie flavors and the goal is to have 20 cookie flavors before the end of 2021. Though cookies are our top sellers we make brownies, cakes and cheesecakes as well. With our wide variety of menu options it’s hard not to find something for everyone. I started baking for custom orders in 2017 after only baking for personal taste and private events. Since then we have progressively grown our brand, now in 2021 Reed Family Baking ships certain items nationwide through trial and error learning something new about the business everyday. Ultimate goal is to be a household name, being at the forefront of someone’s mind when they want desserts. As well as receiving a partnership with oreo or other large dessert companies.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
From the airport I would take them to hermosa or playa del ray based on the time of day. If not taking them to the Hollywood hills to view the Los Angeles skyline at night. Next I would take them to my favorite restaurant Costa Grande in Van Nuys, CA. Would definitely hit the art district near downtown LA to view the various street art and bars. Then hit the fashion district to purchase some clothes. Might take a trip to Vegas or San Diego as they are fairly close by and we love to experience see new things.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my family and friends who have supported me throughout my baking journey. Specifically my dad who taught me everything I know about baking and cooking. From a young age I remember preparing meals and catering for our friends or family. I cherish those moments even more now that I am running my own business and lean on him to bounce new ideas for the customized desserts created. After we discuss the strategy for a new dessert he tells me to try and let him know how it goes. The trail and error method has generated over 7 new cookie flavors and counting.
