We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalaine and Steven Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jalaine and Steven, do you have a budget? How do you make lifestyle and spending decisions?
Absolutely, a sound budget is paramount when it comes to any kind of business. In property management specifically, there are countless expenses that come with the day to day operations, and while these may seem like trivial costs from a distance, they add up quickly and can affect revenue more than you might expect.

Having a budget that accounts for all expenses and some contingency funds directly affects the listing price of a property and the investments that get put back into the home, so a comprehensive budget cannot be overlooked. Budget creation and financial forecasting is a service we offer with Spotlite, and doing this well means more revenue which is good for everyone involved.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
This journey all started with the purchase of our first home, which was never intended to become an investment property. After living in the house for several years and turning it into a beautiful tropical oasis, we realized that there was a large market for the exact type of property we had created for ourselves. From that point forward, we were hyper focused on putting all the needed systems in place to run a successful vacation rental.

After some initial trial and error, we realized that we had created a group of repeatable processes with a focused attention to detail that made a great recipe for a very busy rental property.

Taking that one step further, we fully realize how daunting the task of starting a vacation rental and properly managing it can be. When we started short term rentals, we wished we had a professional or trusted advisor to guide us and help answer the 1000’s of questions that came up, therefore we created Spotlite Management. We want to take the stress of launching a vacation rental off of new hosts, we provide 1 on 1 mentoring, assistance with licensing, and insights on design and marketing. It’s a very modular offering that can be catered to any client’s needs and has worked very well for us!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay, we live for this! The one thing we love about South Florida is that there is so much to do. We would start the week off the right way and doing a beach day down at Lake Worth Beach. Enjoying lunch and drinks on the pier at Benny’s on the Beach listening to the live music while watching the sunset. Then we would hit Lake Worth Ave, for some souvenir shopping.

Downtown Clematis Street is an absolute must! We would go to Hullabaloo for dinner in the Airstream in the back, get some caffeine at Sub-Culture before grabbing drinks and playing old school arcade games at Lost Weekend. In the mood for a bar crawl, we can’t leave without stopping at Oshea’s Irish Pub, and Respectable Street Cafe. We’ll end the night like a true local by grabbing a slice at Nico’s Pizza before calling the Uber.

You can’t leave without checking out Peanut Island, we could rent some paddle boards or kayaks and paddle across the intracoastal to snorkel all around the island. If we get really lucky, we might see manatees floating around!

The Norton Museum is another “must see” WPB has to offer, as the largest museum in Florida it contains a plethora of incredible works of art.

We can end the trip with a shopping spree at Rosemary Square. The Square is hub of big brand stores, as well as incredible restaurants. There are always events and live music taking place and even a splash pad for the little ones!

There is so much to do, right here in our little city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are lucky to live in this beautiful city of West Palm Beach. When we moved here, we quickly realized that this city would be the perfect place to vacation too, and we wanted to share all that it had to offer. Therefore, we would love to shoutout our entire community! Especially our fellow small business owners that have made this community so colorful and filled our city with absolute gems. Our city wouldn’t be as incredibly charming as it is without the mom-and-pop restaurants, the coffee shops, books stores, record stores, thrift shops and farmers markets. All of these places make our city a wonderful destination so without them, we would have never thought about sharing our homes with vacationers.
