We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalisa Ann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jalisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Creating my brand, Good Fruite, was a deeply personal journey centered around celebrating life and reflecting my own personal growth. “You will know them by their fruit.”… It began with a vision of independence, and a commitment to empowering people who embody qualities of consistency, diligence, vibrancy, and resilience through fashion. Drawing inspiration from my upbringing, each piece of wearable art tells a story of strength, perseverance, and self-expression. Good Fruite is more than just a brand— It’s a testament to the journey of everyone who embraces their authenticity.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Diligence and resilience have been recurring themes in my journey. Coming from a creatively inclined maternal side and entrepreneurial paternal lineage, I was supported in pursuing my passion for design from a young age. Graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, I’ve faced life’s challenges head-on, learning invaluable lessons along the way:

1. The beauty of life is confirmed in the fog of chaos. So now I embracing both rainy and sunny days. As they equally inspire my creativity.
2. Perseverance is key—whether treading water or swimming like Michael Phelps, “just keep swimming.” *in my best Dori impression.
3. Embracing growth and new experiences unlocks our full potential.

My goal with Good Fruite is to inspire joy, pride, and connection. Through fresh perspectives, I aim to empower wearers and celebrate individuality, resonating with a diverse audience seeking unique garments.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Absolutely! While Orlando is known for its theme parks, there’s so much more to explore.

I’d start with lunch at The DaJen Eats in the historical town of Eatonville for delicious vegan eats and treats. We’d explore the vibrant Mills 50 District, checking out local boutiques and grabbing coffee at Lineage Coffee Roasting. Next, a visit to the Orlando Museum of Art and then Three Mask Inc, for some culture, followed by dinner at The Ravenous Pig, known for its upscale Southern cuisine.

Mid-week, we’d venture to Winter Park for a scenic boat tour on the Chain of Lakes and lunch at the charming Park Avenue. In the evening, we’d catch a show at The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Another day, we’d spend at East End Market, sampling artisanal foods and browsing unique shops.

As the weekend approaches, we’d unwind at Wekiva Island with kayaking and drinks by the river. For dinner, a visit to Hawkers Asian Street Fare for eclectic eats and a lively atmosphere. Our final day would include a visit to Harry P. Leu Gardens for a peaceful stroll among beautiful flora, followed by sunset cocktails at The Nest rooftop bar for breathtaking views of the city skyline.

Throughout the week, I’d also ensure to catch some live music at venues like Will’s Pub or explore the craft beer scene at breweries like Crooked Can Brewery. This itinerary offers a diverse mix of experiences, showcasing Orlando’s hidden gems beyond the theme parks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a single mother, I owe much of my ability to create and manage my business to the unwavering support of my sister, Cherisse. From serving as a sounding board for ideas to babysitting my son, her invaluable advice and support are indispensable in making my dreams a reality.
