We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamar Cleary and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamar, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The business I am involved in is called Photography, specifically brand and lifestyle photography. This is a type of photography when done properly can evoke high levels of emotions while promoting a brand. a part of my lifestyle photography is travel photography whether in the island of Jamaica where I am from or the different countries I have visited. I have had persons from different nationalities reach out to me saying that seeing my photos have made them nostalgic and missing their homeland. It makes me happy to hear that and that gives me the drive to keep going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It all started out as a hobby, just randomly taking photos and trying to bring ideas to life that seemed crazy to other until I people started to appreciate my work and eventually offered to pay for my services then I registered the business and the rest is history.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to get some fry or steam fish and festival from a local fish hunt called Qubans Hideout Fish Hut at Hellshire Beach St. Catherine, Jamaica then we would find a local bar to drink and “hold a vibe” The other days would mostly be road trips around Jamaica to get the authentic vibe of the other dishes eg: Jerk Chicken, Ackee and Saltfish, Curried Goat and white rice etc. We are food people lol.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a few people who have helped me along the way. The first person is Orville Matherson, he is a known director, producer and the owner of Yaad Boiiz Film Production. He gave me the opportunity to intern at his company when I just had passion and no experience. I am forever grateful to him for that. Second person is Luigi Society, He is a music producer and promoter who saw the talent in me and continues to push and tries his best to create opportunities for me to show my talent to the world and last but not least, Omesha Smith, my Girlfriend who has been in my corner to motivate and support me. She is the main driving force behind me continuing to pursue my dreams. Without these people I would not be the person I am in this industry today.
