We had the good fortune of connecting with Jameela Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jameela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was doing something that I would not get tired of and did on almost an everyday basis. I really wanted to do something that would benefit other daily routine and lifestyle.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from other content creator is my choice in sounds. Majority of my reels that are tutorials or before and after transitions are songs from my childhood between the early 2000s and songs our parents had us listen to while they cooked in the kitchen, Saturday mornings while cleaning the house, or even car rides on a late night while heading home. A lot of people relate to my content and that’s honestly what I love the most about doing it. It was not easy getting here with the amount of research, consistency, and networking that had to be done but I am grateful for how much that work has gotten me so far. There were many trial and error decisions that were made between times to upload, image/video quality, and most importantly- How to properly care for my hair. Hair can change over time and you have to adapt to you because making it the other way around is impossible. If there is anything I want people to know about my brand and story is no journey is easy and sometimes we’ll shock our younger selves with what we end up doing for a living but as long as you love what you do, you’ll end up being successful at it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was visiting Philadelphia, PA I would have to take them to the Art Museum for starters. To take a picture with the infamous Rocky statue and run the stairs that Sylvester Stallone did in the movie. Of course we will see the amazing art that is located inside of the museum but the steps are a huge tourist spot in the city as well as the “LOVE” statue located at Love Park in the center city section of the city. As for food, there has been many new places that opened up after the pandemic that everyone will love but my favorite spot to introduce someone to the city would be The Loft Lounge, located in the Manayunk section of the city. The restaurant offers brunch, happy hour, and dinner from 10am-2am with many different specials for each day of the week from Karaoke night, movie night, taco Tuesday’s, and more.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A group that I would like to shout out is my college track team for helping me come up with the brand name “Curltivity” which means “Curls X Positivity”.
