We had the good fortune of connecting with James Roan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Well I love the arts and the freedom of being creative by telling my story. Putting my thoughts into art forms with words/songs and watching them come to life in sound. Everyone has a blank canvas, its just a matter of what picture you choose to paint. I really believe the pictures I paint have the ability to inspire others to achieve their dreams as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I will say that in hip-hop there’s a lot of music out there. A lot of which is easy to access at anytime. So with that, I feel its easy to run across so many artists on the daily. What will make me stand out now and in the future is the story I tell along with the message I have behind my music. I want to even establish a particular sound unique only to me. We live in an age where things get tired quick and played out fast. I want my music to be timeless. I don’t want the world with hear anything of mine and say “oh, he just sounds like everyone else”. I haven’t gotten to the professional level I want to be at yet, but I’m still working my way up to get there. It will require a lot of sacrifice, a lot of hard work and difficulty. So as long as I stay on the right path, I shall and will achieve my goals and accomplishments.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most of my spots would be food related since I love to eat. I love the Latin spots along with soul food places as well. My eating spots would be POC American Fusion Buffet & Sushi in Coral Gables, El Granero a Latin restaurant in Miami Lakes, Sundays Eatery a Soul Food restaurant in Miami Gardens and others. I love to hangout at the Homestead Speedway every first Friday to watch the races or race myself, South City Beach Park in Hallandale Beach, Blackbird Ordinary a Nightclub in Brickell, and Aventura Mall for the movies, more restaurants and shopping. Miami is very versatile and multicultural one of the best places in the country to get to know people. Honestly there’s so many places to go and things to do in this city so its best to get out there and explore!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To be honest I’m inspired by everyone. There’s no particular person or group. I’m inspired by the millionaire driving the fancy car to the homeless guy performing magic tricks on the street. Its daily and whatever I see in front of me which can be anything from an accomplishment to kindness to talent, etc. I never block an opportunity to become moved by anyone or anything.
