We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamika Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business started about 4 years ago. Cosmetology was always my hobby that kept extra funds in my pocket, something I always enjoyed while growing up. I started around 13 years of age, and always maintained a job as a main source of income. But it was just always something about doing hair that kept me with a positive train of thought. Keeping clients looking amazing, felt refreshing. It also made me feel good about myself also, that I was able to display my work out in the open for the world to see. It was a natural gift that came naturally. From then on, I knew what I wanted to proceed with.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It was never about what sets me apart from others but standing out from others. We have amazing people with different backgrounds of work and/or talent. I wanted to not only put a business out there but put a business that had a meaning to millions of people. A brand that was like no other, making me the face of my own brand. It was exciting but also nerve wrecking. Not knowing where or how far it will take you or even if it would last long enough to be rememberable. Making sure to also keep a business-like appearance for myself, keeping up with today’s world fashion. Getting where I am today, took a lot of time and patience. You have to get the feel of clients (old and new). and making sure you’re meeting their needs. Things do get overwhelming, when it comes to the cosmetic world because you have to stay up to date. Not just overcoming the challenges but challenging myself was the hardest task at hand. I love to take them on, it pushes me to the next level. Every level feels like a new spark of energy for myself. Lessons I’ve learned on the way, are to always go with your own mind and heart when it comes to decision making about your life. Its ok to ask questions, when needed but always go with your very own advice. Sometimes it may be best. Coming from a positive peaceful state of mind, I encourage anyone with a business or upcoming business to keep going and keep striving. Strangers will support you faster than your very own. It feels good to give and receive love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Nothing like a fun time in Wynwood’s House of Mac or Dadeland Earls, even a brunch at Ceviche 105. Plenty of places to choose from. Being a fan of food, it wouldn’t be a problem showing up to enjoy our stomachs. The beaches here in Miami are also another option for a good food and fun time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Most definitely would like to thank God first and foremost. Without him, I probably wouldn’t have gotten this far. Life sometimes gets a little overwhelmed, but it feels good to keep going. My kids are my biggest fans, they let me know to also keep striving with my life goals. Overall, my supporters and clients. To know they entrust you is meaningful.
