We had the good fortune of connecting with Janie Reisler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janie, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
My creative process is inspired by Emerging Artists of new mediums. Right now I am loving Art Installations and especially Drone Art. I feel all this ‘GRAND SCALE’ Art is amazing, so innovative and refreshing. I also enjoy teaching young children and have the opportunity of being an Art Specialist at a local Ft. Lauderdale private school. Some of the children are extremely talented and I hope that I will encourage them to continue their journey and explore the Art World as they develop their new-found skills.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My new body of Art is a culmination of my entire 45 plus career! My latest pieces combine my STREET ART style with textural fabric techniques and print design. Throw in a little graphic design typography and painting…and there…Voila…You have it! I am thrilled about this NEW WORK and I have been extremely busy completing the pieces. Each one is UNIQUE yet related to my style. Answering your question on, ‘Was my career easy?’, and I will respond with saying, ABSOLUTELY NOT. Everything worth working towards, is rarely easy, but it is definitely rewarding, fulfilling and always challenging.

And next question, ‘What do I want the world to know about me, my story and my brand?’… My response would be that you should never feel uncomfortable choosing a new path. Sometimes it may feel daunting and scary, but a new path leads to immense growth especially if you are in the Creative Field. The purpose of my courses and my teaching is first and foremost to INSPIRE and CHANGE your Art Style, as a form of enlightenment. If a student has made headway and learned from me, and changes up their style, I feel that I have been a SUCCESS to them!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite Spots…My first day out would be to head down to the Wynwood Arts District. As a pitstop, we would go to the Upper Buena Vista area for brunch at Vista and check out the local shops. Then we would proceed down to Wynwood for a day of walking the streets and galleries, viewing the Murals at the Wynwood Walls, grabbing in a bite at KYU. Next up would be the Museum of Graffiti near by. There is so much to see in the area. Wear comfy shoes if you are hanging out with me! Day two I’d book a lunch date at LEKU for some incredible Basque cusine at the Rubell Museum, then view their spectacular collection. Days later, a trip to South Beach and do an Art Deco Walking Tour and stroll down Lincoln Road. The weekend would end with a drive to Key Biscayne and soak up some sun at the local beach there. There is so much to see and do in Miami. I love VIZCAYA gardens near the Grove. I love Palm Beach and the Henry Flagler Museum, the Norton Museum of Art and the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens…a week is never enough!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize many of my new colleagues and employers for giving me the opportunity to work and thrive in my new city of Miami. As a new permanent resident of South Florida, coming from Montreal, Quebec, I was embraced so genuinely by those that interviewed and hired me. It was very daunting at first, being of new status in America, but I was warmly received and I can’t thank these wonderful people enough. I will cherish this in my heart forever.
