We had the good fortune of connecting with Janiece Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janiece, what makes you happy? Why?
Creating makes me happy. Not just happy–it fuels me. It’s just something about starting off with a blank canvas and ending up with a masterpiece in the end that excites me! Working with clients and seeing their reactions just keeps me going strong. It makes me want to continue creating more masterpieces to feel that same energy over and over. It’s like a drug that I can’t seem to quit.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is specifically in graphic design. I’m most proud of my ability to keep content cohesive and style brands with this skill. I got to where I am today professionally by practicing. With each client that I have comes more and more practice. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is that there are many ways to achieve certain designs and looks, you just have to find the best (and easiest) way that will work for you when it comes to designing. Something that I want the world to know about my story is that my brand is 100% backed up by my faith. Without God and my faith in Him — my brands name, my amazing clients, and the revenue would not be here!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to visit for a week, I’d definitely have a mixture of relaxation and adventure. Some of the most interesting things to check out are the beaches, waterfront restaurants like Shooters and Kaluz, spas, fun museums and recreational activities like kayaking.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my amazing group of boss sisters. Without them, I wouldn’t have had as much of a push to start my business. We made sure to stay up to date on things we were working on with our businesses, gave each other critiques and advice, and just did life together all around. It’s so amazing how we are all in completely different industries of business — yet we’re still able to pour in bits and pieces of advice to each other from our specific fields. Shoutout to my best friends who’ve known my passion for creativity and graphics; Erline who will never forget the exact words I said to her about my dreams years ago and will always remind me whenever I’m feeling uncertain and Melissa who never fails to encourage me with her uplifting words. Lastly, shoutout to my husband who continues to motivate me to get this bread and be my own boss!
