Meet Jasmine Lewis | Nail Technician, Educator & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Simple as this: GOD and GOD ALONE.
I can’t say that I am where I want to be in my business as my brand is still growing but everything that I have achieved thus far has been by the Grace of God.
I have visions of where I want to be in life, and I feel as if it is God dropping previews on what’s to come in my life and everything I vision I’ve put action towards it and it has mostly been prosperous.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Licensed Nail Technician and I own an Online Nail Supply.
I started my nail career in 2018 from my apartment. I dedicated hours to watching videos online and practicing every single day. I started to build my clientele by working on close friends and family, co-workers & church members. Every set that I did, I’d post on Instagram and slowly I would get bookings.
I finished Nail School in May of 2020 and rented my first salon booth that same month.
I got to a point where my business was really growing and I wanted to advance to the next phase of my career by getting my own salon suite but with that, I had to make a choice. Working my business part-time and having a suite wouldn’t have made financial sense. I had to ask myself, “Do I want to stay in this cycle of what I am doing? Or do I want to give my business everything I got and see where it takes me?”
So, I took a leap of faith and quit my job June 30, 2021 and I haven’t looked back since.
Being the person I am, after my first 3 months of being Self-Employed, I wanted more. My nail business was growing consistently, but my one of life goals is to have passive income. I took time to research different sources of income in my industry, but I wanted to do something that fit ME.
After a few months, I decided to go the route of my own Acrylic Powder brand. I spent months researching the industry, working with mentors on starting an online brand, sourcing different vendors and invested hundreds of dollars into samples that I ended up hating, etc. I put in a lot of work before officially launching.
Fast forward, I launched “The Eight28 Collection” on July 1, 2022.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course, I would have to plan a nice beach day. Because most out-of-towners don’t have access to beaches like we do in South Florida, it’s only right that I’d take her to one of our beaches to enjoy the weather and relax.
On a weekend, Victory Restaurant and Lounge in Miami to do a nice brunch. That place is a 10/10. Every time I’ve been there, I have no complaints.
All of my friends like excitement, so we’d more than likely find a party going on to attend in the night hours.
Overall, there are a lot of options in my area to show a person a great time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course! I must give credit where credit is due.
First, I want to start with my old nail technician Emily (@acrylicaddiction)
I was faithfully in her chair from 2017-2018
I always had an interest in nails and every time she’d do a set for me, I’d be in love. There would be times when I’d ask her if she would teach classes because I wanted to see if I could do it.
Around June or July of 2018 she went on maternity leave, and I didn’t want anyone else to do my nails. I also had been experiencing a lot in my personal life and was the perfect time for me to pick up a new hobby.
I reached out to Emily and told her that I was thinking about doing nails and she sent me an entire list of things I needed to start and where to get them locally and I went out and bought everything on that list.
She doesn’t know that her sending me that list started my nail journey.
So Emily, THANK YOU!
Honorable mention to @KlasiqNails & @TheNailSecret for working with me hands on to learn how to perfect my craft in the beginning of my journey as well.
At this stage of my career, I also must shout out Porcha (@QueenOfBling_) who has been helping to mold me into the Nail Mogul that I am destined to be. She’s been very passionate about taking me to the next level and I appreciate how she believes in me.
