Meet Javier Orbegoso | Private Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Javier Orbegoso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Javier, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I´ve been executive chef for many years and I was on the back of the house most of the time, but sometimes when I showed up to the tables to talk with customers and I could see the happiness on their faces to meet the chef of the restaurant at their table talking with them and sharing recipes, stories and taking pictures, so I felt like I could do something on my free time to bring this experience to their houses, so I started checking online about the options and I saw others chefs doing it, so I decided to try it on my free time and here I am now!

What should our readers know about your business?
Being a private chef is not something I created; this existed probably before I was born…. My difference? First, I do it with a lot of respect because the food gave me everything I could have in my life, thanks to my mom selling food I could study and be somebody I have 2 careers: Business Management and Culinary, so I feel when I cook, I have to give this respect back to my ingredients, my customers and my career and second and very important I LOVE what I do, I love to talk with customers about my roots, my knowledge, experiences and the story behind the food
Challenges? I work for different people with different kitchens and different palates, there is always a challenge and I love challenges because you push yourself to get a better version of you
Lessons? To be prepared, as I said before, I work for different kitchens, sometimes they didn’t have enough space or the right equipment, so I started buying them for my business and now I have my own place of everything I need to bring with me to every service
Mission? Mine is not only to bring fine dining at the comfort of your house, I want customers enjoy the full experience: delicious food made right in front of them, a nice talking and share knowledge and experiences around the most important part of the house where people get together to share moments and food to build memories: a dining table!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like to eat and the nature, I would take my friend to eat different types of cuisines and hang out to the beach, an island, a waterfall, ride horses, getting on a yacht, jet skis, etc

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Special thanks to my mom, because she introduced me into the culinary world when I was 8 yrs old in my country Peru. I remember we were passing a hard economic situation: my dad lost his office job and he started working as a construction guy and my mom decided to start cooking for the constructions around ours (because at that time my house was under construction too), they started working as a team, my dad brought the customers and my mom cooked for them as an informal restaurant in our half build house, at that moment I used to helped my mom with the juices, tasting the spices and helping her with whatever I could at that age, they could build our house, pay our studies (my sister and mine) and get everything we needed.
Also, thanks to my dad, because he always taught me not to give up and fight for my dreams, he was a really hard worker guy!
