We had the good fortune of connecting with MSYJ Pronounced message and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MSYJ, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that attention to detail in the art process contributes heavily to the success of the brand. What are you trying to say is believed to have more impact than figuring out what rhymes with what. My artist perspective of being a black man suffering from the human condition and the impact of society and culture on my existence is reduced and reduced until the essence remains. I then use this reduced essence and present my perspective in a relatable so you can live through the moment with me. For example in the song “See the light,” for me, represents the essence of the place, person, or thing that causes some enlightenment that should resonate with you on a spiritual level. the song does this to a point where it sounds like it belongs in the gospel genre.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I go into sessions knowing that I think differently, my experiences are different, and my approach is unique while at the same time looking at great works to play with ideas in my own way. I’ve been involved in fine arts since middle school as a draftsman, painter, or what whatever medium I was allowed to explore. I love the concepts more than the actual work at times and could get lost in intentions, meanings, and perspectives while critiquing. I used the concepts I learned then and apply them to my approach to music. I was taught music by obsessive studying in music programs, and filling in the church band. I tried my hand at the bass, the keyboard, drums, and sometimes guitar. I played the minor scale too much. I believe I represent the recording artists that experiment and put their perspectives and life experiences into the work. My culture, as a jamaican American, should be evident through these recorded views.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I grew up in west Palm Beach, Fl and lived in different cities. It’s off the coast where I would suggest going tubing or fishing of a pier at peanut Island. I like to stop at a little humble spot on Blue heron on my way back from Peanut island called Natural Vibrations for a filling smoothie and jamaican beef patty. There are so many beaches it can get overwhelming. Watch out for iguanas. Also downtown Clematis has a few bars and restaurants to frequent.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, shout out to C. Rag for being a friend you need that for mental health. In my story i’d like to give an extra loud shoutout to Drum’n Skillz. It’s this brotherhood of focusing on the what we can do to make each other better. Pivotal to my vision would be growing up with fellow recording artist DanielxCruz. We keep the dream alive and keep pushing. I can’t forget Fast life Records and the “BP” the ceo. Fast Life Records has been detrimental to my success and facilitator of my art. One thing that keeps me sane and balanced in this industry would have to be practicing mindful meditation and making sure my calendar is filled with events that will contribute to my success. Being helpful and helping others also has played a major role in enhancing my story in that resources were shared along with experiences. I’d also like to thank the collaborative efforts of those that genuinely believe in me as a business and as an individual. Mostly, i’d like to thank my mother Valrie for her values and life protection.
