We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Toledo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Doing what I love most! So, let me explain. In the world of electronic music some genres within the realm of electronic music dominant more than others. Techno being one of the bigger ones, isn’t that big in the United States when compared to other sub genre such as EDM, tech-house, house, etc. I began my first few gigs playing deep house, tech, desert house. Which I did enjoy to some degree but was not happy. When I got in the studio all I wanted to make was techno. So the decision was an obvious one but not an easy one to make. Give up most gigs in Miami in pursue of finding my actual sound, producing and playing the style I want. I don’t regret my decision at all! Not only content with my choice but now the scene in Miami is growing more and more. I now find myself playing more international shows than before. That crave the sound I have created and play.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Believe In yourself and the process but be objective about it. It’s great to chase your dream and be as original and true to yourself and the form of art. However, it should in my opinion be a translation of your personality and life in a way which people can understand. In my profession it’s important to have a balance. Make music you like! How are you feeling? What’s going on in your life? Say it through music. Now, balance that with what works in a dance club. Which is danceable music that the crowd can connect to. That was my personal biggest obstacle. Was finding a sweet spot in which someone can listen to the song in the car, at the gym, at a bar or in a night club.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anywhere that’s by the water! I am a sucker for scenic views! I usually take my friends to vizcaya and for lunch/drinks on a roof top. Overlooking our beautiful city. There’s a few hidden gems here for sure but for a casual lunch I would say amara at paraiso, for dinner flemings. For a day out exploding, wynwood. Lastly, can’t go wrong with going out in the open ocean. Pulling up to an island and enjoy the day with good friends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mentor, friend & sound engineer Leonardo degl’’lnnocenti.

My music production partner, DJ duo & best friend Lara klart.
