We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmine Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
That if I was going to work myself to the bone for someone else for 40-60 hours a week, I might as well do it for myself. It was scary making the leap but ultimately I was trading my happiness for money. I was making good money at my corporate job and even though I’m not making now what I was, I’m enjoying life much more. I knew if I invested enough time to dedicate learning and growing a business, I could do it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My passion for gardening stemmed from learning to live a more sustainable lifestyle. I’ve always loved the outdoors, just being in the sun and listening to the wind was always a type of therapy for me but when I learned about the real dangerous path we’re on because of all the damage we’re doing to our air, land and water I knew I had to change my personal lifestyle to fit my love for nature. Early in my sustainability journey I learned of the immense waste behind our food which inspired me to grow my own, I learned a lot, and learned it quick. Eventually had people asking me questions, a lot, so I jumped in feet first! I then expanded and took my love of plants into herbalism and became a certified herbalist and now enjoy teaching about herbalism, gardening and overall holistic health. It hasn’t been easy, there’s been days of doubt and worry but, I’ve only continued to grow both in business sales but as a business owner and that’s how you just know it’s all working out!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Paddleboarding/kayaking to Biscayne Bay, art viewing in Wynwood along with beers at Wynwood Brewery, lots of days at the beaches, and definite visit Azucar Ice cream!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I could shoutout just three people it would be: – David the Goode, from The Survival Gardner for writing witty and informative books about growing plants and starting a home based nursery. His books gave me my first insight on the value of growing foods and plants in our unique Florida environment. – My boyfriend for supporting me in this crazy step. With four kids and a mortgage it was a big step to support my leap from a well paying corporate job to starting my own business! – Literally every female entrepreneur before me who inspired me to just take action and do it! I could list so many but some of my favorites are Jenna Kutcher, Boss Babes, Amy Porterfield and Rachel Hollis. All of them have taught me so much about running a business!
