We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeania Pierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeania, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
What really fueled my ambition to start my cosmetic business was when a young girl made a comment about women of color not being able to wear different shades of lipsticks. I made a deal to wear any color lipstick she requested and for her to tell me she is beautiful every time she passed by. Emboldened by our tacit agreement and daily affirmations, I proudly wore bright-colored lipstick every day. I was committed to doing what I had to do to help her see how beautiful she was in her very own skin. Little did I know while helping her build her confidence, my very own self-esteem was growing. From there, I told myself that I would build my own natural lip wear collection and make strides to become inclusive and cater to women of all skin tones. The fear of starting my business put me on hold. One day while engaging in a conversation with an entrepreneur, she encouraged me to step out on faith and just start small. “It’s better to start your very own brand than living with regrets,” she informed me. December of 2019, During December of 2019, I withdrew money from my savings and applied for a second job. I knew immediately these efforts to start my own brand, would pay dividends and be extremely rewarding at the end. Niajaye Cosmetics lip wear collection provides high-quality, long-lasting, and smooth matte lipsticks. My lip wear is also 100% Vegan, Paraben-free, Gluten-Free, and Cruelty-Free and very affordable. Niajaye Lip wear speaks for you! One thing I’ve learned through the whole process is that we are the brand. The majority of the time people buy what they see others wearing. Now, when I’m out and about getting compliments, I can tell individuals that I’m wearing my very own lip wear and brand for myself.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of Niajaye Cosmetics which was developed with one goal in mind: providing a high-quality, long-lasting, and smooth matte lipstick in an online store. My passion for excellence has driven me from the beginning and continues to drive me into the future. I know that every product counts and I strive to make the entire experience as rewarding as possible. I must say that it started off rough, but that didn’t stop me. I started making great sales and promoting myself at different events or in person. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, new challenges presented itself, but it gave me time to think of different marketing strategies and further cement the need for new sales tactics. I have been encouraged and have been successfully collaborating and networking with small business owners. And not only can you shop online at niajaye.com. You can find Niajaye Cosmetics at Cool Creative located in Miami, FL and at different Pop Up and Shop Events in Dade and Broward. My goal is to expand globally.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would definitely want to take them to Wynwood and Brickell for great entertainment. Let us talk about the food in Wynwood I would recommend the RHouse, Victory Restaurant to eat and take a walk down Wynwood Art District. In Brickell, I would have her check out great restaurants like, Dolores But You Can Call Me Lolita, American Social, Crazy About You. Let us not forget about the beaches in Miami and shopping malls.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many individuals that I can truly say that I am grateful for and who have supported me throughout my business journey. God is my number one reason why I have planted the seed of starting Niajaye Cosmetics, which is a brand that focuses on lip care and cosmetic products. He has placed amazing individuals in my corner. To start off, my friend Tina who owns a business name Fab Body Spa, guided me with the first step and tools that I needed to start. My family, especially my mom and sisters (Wendy, Lourdie, Sabrina, & Tracey) have been my #1 fans from the moment I told them about Niajaye Cosmetics. I also have the most amazing friends that have been and continues to be in my corner. I was blessed with the opportunity of meeting LaShawnna Stanely at the start of the pandemic. She helped give me that drive and push that I needed with words of encouragement. She even trusted in Niajaye’s Lip Collection on her lips. In addition to her continued support, she voluntarily shares content related to my business to her fans to help promote my small business. This recent year, I have also been blessed with mentorship from Johanne Wilson who owns Cool Creative Inc. She has taught me different sorts of ways to operate and promote my business with better marketing skills and services. On Cool Creative grand opening Pop Up and Shop, she allowed me to be a vendor and sell my lip products at her store location, which was instrumental in building brand awareness… Let us not forget my followers and beautiful queens out there that are rocking Niajaye’s Lip Collections on their lips. I tell my Queens that they are the brand that makes my brand look flawless. And I THANK YOU QUEENS!!!!!!
