We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeannie Schmidle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeannie, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I am a Nature Teacher. I take great pride in providing an avenue for students of all ages to explore the outdoor world, and discover the endless possibilities nature has to offer. My nature classes are messy, unpredictable, spontaneous, and filled with creative juices. I like to say, “I teach children how to play outside.” Weird right? How is that possible? According to Child Mind Institute, the average child spends about 4 to 7 minutes a day playing outside and over 7 hours a day in front of a screen. It’s a scary statistic. Therefore, my small business helps children learn how to garden, understand soil structure, play with mud, harvest vegetables, run after butterflies, learn how to use tools, identify animal species, and learn to take care of our planet; just to name a few. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire children to love nature and this reward has infinite benefits.

What should our readers know about your business?
Unlikely Charming is a space designed to enrich little people’s perspective on gardening and the environment. The classes offer physical activity through garden and outdoor lessons. Students will have the opportunity to explore the outdoor world through science, art, math, hands-on, and endless creative ways.

My classes are unique and what makes me continue this journey is seeing my student’s smiles when I arrive for class. The journey has not been easy. A small business has many components and could drive someone to quit. Yet, the smiles on children’s faces is what drives me to continue this exploration of nature.

I’ve learn so many things from this journey. Yet, the best advise I can say when starting a small business is to focus on the present, everything else will fall into place.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
