We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Fidder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, how do you think about risk?
I believe risk is a necessary evil. We all like spending most of our time in our comfort zone because it is….well, comfortable. The reality is, by avoiding risks we might get stuck in a position we don’t want to be in. When I moved to the US eleven years ago I took a huge risk. I had two suitcases, a little bit of savings, no apartment, and no job. The first years weren’t easy but it paid off. I wouldn’t be where I am today in my business and my life if I didn’t take a leap of faith. I think the biggest problem is, that we are afraid to fail but as long as we get back up when we’re falling, there is no failure. There are just experiences and lessons learned which in return will make all future risks more calculated.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been a personal fitness trainer for 14 years. I started out in Germany working part-time in gyms and with a couple of private clients to finance my studies at University. When I moved to the US I first had to work odd jobs to make ends meet (I worked in retail, as a personal assistant, and as a manager in hotels) and slowly built up my business from the ground. About five years ago I was finally able, with the help of my fiancé, to go full-time with my business and I’ve been working as an in-home and online coach for women ever since. It was definitely not an easy journey and I am still learning every single day. I am very fortunate that I now have an assistant who takes a lot of the workload off my shoulders, so I can focus on what I am really good at; coaching! I believe one of the reasons why I am so successful in my business is that I am able to provide a more holistic approach to health and fitness. My background in social psychology and educational science as well as my training as a hypnotist and CONTROL practitioner allow me to address one of the most neglected areas when it comes to weight loss and fitness, which is our mindset. Oftentimes it is not enough to provide kickass workout programs and nutrition guidelines. What’s getting in the way of people’s success is more often than not their limiting beliefs. My education allows me to meet my clients where they’re at and help them upgrade their mindset, overcome obstacles and set them up for long-term success. I am very excited that we are now slowly shifting our focus to seminars and workshops to be able to help more clients reach their fitness goals. While COVID has been challenging, it also gave us the opportunity to work more online and with clients who are not located in the Miami area.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think everybody who comes to Miami needs to at least see South Beach, walk on Ocean Drive, have a drink in one of the many cafes and restaurants, and spend some time at the beach. I would also definitely take them to Wynwood to see the Wynwood walls and check out some of the galleries and museums. We’d check out Key Biscayne and Crandon Beach and take a trip down to the Everglades to go on an airboat ride, walk some trails, and – hopefully – see alligators, snakes, and deers. Then we’d take a couple of days to go down to the Keys, maybe go snorkeling at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and take a tour of the Hemmingway House in Key West. If we still have time, I’d take them north to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to see the amazing guitar they built. As for food, there are so many great restaurants, it’s hard to choose. My friends and I prefer casual, cozy places, so I’d probably take them to The Local House on South Beach for breakfast, have a nice lunch at Pinch Kitchen+Bar and get some amazing unicorn poop ice cream from Cream Parlor. For dinner we might end up at one of the cute little restaurants on Espanola Way.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a big shoutout to my parents who always supported me as well as my fiancé. Without them in my life I would have never been able to build my business and grow it to what it is today. I also want to give a shoutout to Kenneth at the Kobilka Apartments in Miami Beach. He, his wife, and his brother rented an apartment to us (my ex-husband and myself) when we first moved to Miami. We didn’t have a job, no rental or credit history and wouldn’t have been able to get an apartment at all. Their open-heartedness and trust in us helped us get a foot in the door and build our life in the US from the ground up.
