We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Nava and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I personally never thought this would turn into a business. Since young, I always loved baking and one day I decided to take a cookie decorating class and that lead to a hobby I really enjoyed. When family and friend started to see my work, they encouraged me to make a business out of it. I believe I’ve prospered in my business because I love what I am doing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve had a lot of ups and downs and I’ve learned that without failure, there is no success. I once read a quote that really spoke to me because because it taught me to persevere and not give up. The quote said “I am certain that success means a lot of work. Some people call it luck, but it’s consistency. They call it chance, but it’s discipline. They call genetics, but it’s sacrifice. Don’t give up!” This quote helped realize that if I want to grow I have to continue educating myself so that I can continue learning more techniques.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in a beach town, so obviously I would take them to see the beautiful beaches that we have. There are a lot of restaurants that I could take them to, but one of my favorite ones is this little cafe that I visit quiet often because of the desserts and sandwiches they serve, but also because of the story behind their success. It is a little coffee shop that started with just a few deserts and to see how much it’s grown, it’s inspiring to me. Lastly, our downtown area in West Palm Beach has been recently renovated and it is filled with shops and restaurants to go to. They also play live music on the weekends, so that would definitely be something fun to.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I would like to recognize God for giving me the gift that I have for baking. I am thankful to have a very supportive family, but the support of my husband Carlos has been key in my journey. He has encouraged me when at times I wanted to give up and I would have been able to do it without him. Lastly, my mother has worked side by side with me when I’ve had deadlines and I needed an extra hand. All of this wouldn’t have happened without their love and support.
