We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Zacny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
One piece of conventional advice I disagree with is that you do not need a college degree to be successful in life. There are so many successful well-known people that haven’t even finished or gone to college. Here are some examples: Mark Zuckerberg, the late Steve Jobs, Michael Dell, etc. So many people in my life told me I have to go to college, I did and I dropped out because for me it was pointless. The older I got I realized maybe I’ll go back just cause but to this day, I’m still thinking about it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well… I currently work at my family-owned deli market in Cape Coral. It’s a small but cozy European Market and includes products from Poland, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, and Russia. When my family started this business it was really hard because we had to get all the products from Chicago and make it to Florida. Having a business isn’t easy, I know from firsthand. I love to know a business is seeing how the process works, it’s a lot of work to actually make it happen. What I want the world to know is that being a business owner is not that easy at all, you have to work for your money and work your way up and overcome everything and make it work in the end.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
MIAMI!!! Miami is my favorite place by far! Whenever I don’t have anything to do on the weekend, Miami is the place to be. The one place I always go to is Brickell and Wynwood. Brickell is probably one of my favorite places to go eat and hang out with friends, the shopping is great, night life, etc. The energy there is just so different from other towns I’ve been to. Wynwood is a really artsy town, the food is amazing, nightlife, unique stores, a cool vibe, etc. Probably one of my favorite places to eat in Wynwood has to be The Taco Stand! The Taco Stand has the best tacos probably in South Florida. I’ve tried tacos from different places and this place is my number one, Rocco’s Tacos is number two.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate a shoutout to my beloved parents! They are who I am today, if it wasn’t for them, then I’m not sure where I would be at this moment. Both of my parents came to the United States in the early 1990s from Poland and met in Chicago in 1995. They lived in Chicago for over 27 years and 3 years ago, they decided to move to Florida (Cape Coral) because that was the goal! I moved to Florida almost 2 years ago and wouldn’t go back. My parents put their family first, they always made sure that their kids (my sister and brothers) come first and that we were okay in the end.
