We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Fussell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamika, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Actually I have two that helps me get through the every day hustle and bustle. One is the scripture, Romans 8:28, And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. This particular scripture brings me comfort in knowing no matter what it looks like and no matter what it feels like, God is right there in the midst working things out on my behalf. My other favorite is ‘It’s not the load that weighs you down, it’s the way you carry it” by C.S. Lewis. This is also a great reminder to not let the weight of the world grip me but I have enough power within me to push through.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently a high school counselor. Outside of that I am a certified life coach, my desire is to help women break through their self limiting barriors, tap into their purpose and evolve in order to elevate to be their best self. I’m also a certified mindfulness coach, certified grief counselor and intern marriage and family therapist, minister and as of recent a comissioned notary. I am the CEO of TLF Ministries, which is a ministry that focuses on empowering men and women from all walks of life to opearte in their God-given purpose. I am also the CEO of Evolve 2 Elevate, which is my faith-based coaching business designed to assist women. You may be reading this wondering why I have my self involved in so many different things. The Lord has blessed me with multiple gifts which has made room for me to help people in various capacities. I think what set me apart is my foundation created by my mom. She taught me early on the importance of putting God first and applying principles such as integrity, determination, confidence and dedication. Honestly, I am proud of every accomplishment achieved because it was not easy due to many challenges I endured along the way. I can honestly say nothing I have achieved came easy but with much prayer and perseverance it has been my fuel to pursue my purpose. I learned I am able to achieve anything I apply my mind to. That no goal set is unattainable and with God I really can do all things. It is my mission to empower every person I come in contact with to inspire them to not give in and to not give up but to push through. It shall come to pass!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably start them at Wynwood. Wynwood has a bit of everything, art, food and culture. We can actually spend a day there checking out the art and trying out different restaurants such as KYU & Beaker & Gray. I’m not into clubs anymore so for a nice social vibe with good food and music I would take my best friend to Bar One. Also for live poetry, we will check out the Bside hosted at Ginger Bay. Depending on the season we will definitely catch a game whether it’s the Heat or the Dolphins. I am a big sports fan, And how can you come to South Florida without going to the beach, so we will definitely take in some fun and sun at the beach. I prefer Deerfield or Pompano Beach. I love the scenery, and restaurants at these particular beaches and it’s usually not overcrowded.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I must shoutout my mother, Joeann Carter who is my rock. She is my inspiration and motivation. She is the reason why I go hard. Growing up, I watched her pick up the pieces after my father’s death. She was a young widow with two kids and no stable income. We were temporarily on welfare but that did not last long. My mom worked some times two to three jobs to support us until she found a position in the school board as a facility worker. She is the one person I know who loves me genuinely without expecting anything in return. She is the one person who I know without any doubts sincerely have my back through the ups and downs. I can depend on her through thick and thin for anything. I am beyond grateful and blessed to have her as my mom, my rock, my inspiration and motivation, She is the reason for my accomplishments.
