We had the good fortune of connecting with Jim Sayih and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jim, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Filling the NEED to serve the disabled community by including them in sports, housing and education.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Im proud of Special Compass Foundation. We are a 100% volunteer charity. No employees, only volunteers, including me and the President. We recently were awarded land to build a unique “Barrier Free” apartment complex for Independent living for our disabled population. My disabled son Michael was born and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. I was told to institutionalize. I committed to include him in everything. At age 5 he did his first Duathlon race with me and his older brother Adam. Today Michael is 28 and has been racing ever since. Parents would ask me to push their disabled children at races but I had to decline because Michael would become a spectator. I started to recruit friends who were athletes to push children at races. That became a movement that required organization so in 2015 we founded Special Compass, a non-profit, 501-c-3 organization. We serve the disabled community as advocates and support education through a scholarship program and soon we will provide affordable housing for independent living. We want the world to accept people with disabilities as they are. They are unique, they contribute to their communities and want friendships like everyone else. Serving others makes us all better and happier.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother Onix Morera.
