We had the good fortune of connecting with Jocelyn Petit-Jean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jocelyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to create a platform to shine a light on overlooked talent. I have a passion for giving a voice to the voiceless and seeing others succeed, which is why I started Flamboyant Talent Media Group to shine a light on the up-and-coming hidden gems whose talent is often overlooked.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Flamboyant Talent, our clients always come first. Our Public Relations agency is an industry leader, and it’s because of the hard work we put into helping every one of our business partners reach their goals and vision.
When I started, it took work because people were trying to figure out who this introverted, hood-looking lady was catching the industry’s attention and around people in high places. People were quick to judge the book by its cover. I would walk into networking events and stand away from the crowd because I felt I did not fit in with the people in the room. In 2021, I attended the Miami Art Basel event with my friend Ange; she noticed I was being antisocial and immediately told me that I had to open up and speak to people for them to put a face on my company. She walked me over to a few people and introduced me to them, breaking the ice.
I want the world to know that Flamboyant Talent is determined to raise awareness for upcoming businesses, brands, or artists whose talent is overlooked. Flamboyant Talent does not focus on social media followers or analytics; we only focus on the talent.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in Fort Lauderdale, FL is the Sistrunk Market Place, Smitty’s Wings, and Lauderdale-By-The Sea.
Smitty’s Wings is currently one of my favorite spots to visit, it is located on the historic Sistrunk Boulevard.
When I want a grown & sexy vibe, no drama, good chicken wings, and strong cocktails; I call my girls or I take my children and head down to Smitty’s Wing.
Sistrunk Market Place is definitely a place to visit in Fort Lauderdale and is a great spot to bring kids for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or, dessert! Sistrunk Marketplace is something different, It’s a Food Hall, Distillery, Brewery, and a phenomenal place for social gatherings and corporate events.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will like to give a shout-out to my brother Pender for connecting me with people who believe in my dream, My first mentor Chef Tica for believing in me when I did not believe in myself, Russo & Ernest of Ready to Unload LLC for their continuous support, love, mentorship and for not allowing me to crash on my dream, Elora Mason of E. Mason & Associate for her guidance, and love when I needed it the most, Jessica of South Promo for being my entry test to the industry, word of encouragement, support, love and allowing me to collaborate with her on phenomenal community events, Wanda Tima of Lunion Suite for her words of encouragement and for being hard on me and last my sister Michelle whose also the Executive Manager of Flamboyant Talent for her hard work, dedication, love, and support. Seeing my sister smile at every success I accomplish, keeps me going.
