We had the good fortune of connecting with Jody Friedman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jody, how do you think about risk?
…man, every day, we’re taking risks without even realizing it – driving to work, boarding a plane, sipping on that morning coffee. But let me tell you, I’ve never been one to let fear dictate my choices. It’s interesting. Many folks claim they’re not into risk-taking, but deep down, we all are. The biggest risk I see people taking daily (and this is going to sound cheesy) but its not believing in yourself. I’ve been there, I’ve underestimated my own potential. But every time I push past that fear, something incredible happens and new doors open. Even if things go sideways, there’s always a lesson to be learned, a skill to be gained.
In my career, I can confidently say that taking risks has been my bread and butter. Even going back to the beginning, leaving that cushy CNN job was a massive risk. But it led me to something I’m truly passionate about, and it pays the bills too.
Running a company is full of risks – Hiring new talent, outsourcing projects, holding firm on a quote to a client – it’s all a gamble. Sometimes it pays off big time, sometimes not so much. But each experience teaches me something new, helps me grow as a business owner.
So yeah, risk? I say bring it on.
What should our readers know about your business?
At Elite Music Coaching, we are 100% dedicated to our Sync Titans – those who are ready to commit to their success. There’s nothing more fulfilling than guiding, supporting, and mentoring individuals who are eager to make their mark in the industry.
We’re not just about coaching; we’re about propelling our Sync Titans to greatness. And we’ve got some incredibly exciting projects in the pipeline – from projects that we are producing to collaborations with some of the biggest names and talents in the business. It’s all about constantly asking ourselves: How can we add more value to our Sync Titans today?
How did I get here? It’s been a journey fueled by hard work, determination, and resilience, among other things. Truth be told, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. There were moments when throwing in the towel seemed like the easiest option. But every time I felt like giving up, I would dig deep and remind myself of my ‘Why’ – the driving force behind everything I do.
And that’s perhaps the biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way: to always keep your ‘Why’ front and center. If you understand truly WHY you do what you do (and this may take some digging), you WILL find success. There is a great book called “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek that I highly recommend that dives deeper into this concept”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hahaha! So many options.
Monday, we would go out on Lake Mission Viejo on a boat and maybe up to downtown Orange to walk around and hang out a bit, enjoying the scenery, shops & dining.
Tuesday – we would head to Salt Creek Beach, near Dana Point. This is the beach used by the Ritz Carlton/Laguna Niguel but its open to the public.
Wednesday – we would find one of the hidden coves in Laguna Beach and go snorkeling.
Thursday – we would uber to downtown Costa Mesa, and go to Goat Hill Tavern, where they have 141 beers on tap!
Friday – Whale Watching in Dana Point – we always see dolphins and usually a whale or two
Saturday – Day trip up to Big Bear
Sunday – Sleep, from an exhausting week!! LOL
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely, where would I be without the incredible support and guidance of so many amazing people and organizations? It’s what has propelled me forward every step of the way.
First and foremost, my family. They’ve been my rock, always cheering me on as I chase my dreams. Then there’s NFTY, my Jewish Youth Group, which saw leadership potential in me from a young age. Their scholarships and nurturing truly helped shape me into the leader I am today at a young age.
And mentors? Oh, there have been many. It’s hard to single out just one without feeling like I’m leaving others behind. So, a massive shoutout to all my colleagues and friends in the Sync business who shared their wisdom and experiences with me throughout the years – you are all an inspiration to me.
Then there’s Luke Kasdan, a friend and director who took a chance on me back in 2008. His offer to music supervise his film opened doors I never even knew existed – and to my dream job. Luke, thank you!
Nancy Grace, Dean Sicoli, and the team at Good Morning America – they believed in my musical talents and gave me platforms to showcase them. And I can’t forget to thank Bill Cunningham and Brian O’Keefe, who saw potential in me as an intern at GMA and helped me grow into a producer.
Honestly, the list of incredible people who’ve contributed to my journey is endless. Each one deserves a round of applause for their part in my story.
