Meet John Blizzard | Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Blizzard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Tara and I were always very passionate about health and wellness. As former athletes and now parents we are constantly working out and eating healthy, staying active. We were fortunate enough to meet our partner Ricardo Wilson in 2022. Ricardo’s knowledge of fitness and wellness space changed our whole mind set and we decided to Open Apollo Wellness in 2024, with the goal of being a First Class Anti-aging and HRT Therapy Model in South Florida.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my career working for hospitality mogul David Grutman. Founder of Groot Hospitality. During my tenure my role was Director of Customer Development. My role involved driving multi-million dollar revenue growth by analyzing financial statements and sales activities, ultimately helping propel Groot HQ to a $40M valuation before we exited to Live Nation in 2019.

in 2020 my career shifted to private equity, where I accepted a role with a single family office, during my tenure and eventually taking on the role as Chief Investment Officer, I challenged my self and went back to school (Boston University) and earned my MS-Finance. This was the most challenging time period of my profession career, working in a new field and balancing graduate school. However, it paid off immensely.

2023 I founded One Seven Capital, a boutique family office serving a select group of Ultra high-net worth clients. I have been fortunate enough to work with institutions such as, Goldman Sachs & Morgan Stanley. My experience and education has propelled my business’s and translated into success in health and wellness space.

The biggest lessons I have learned:

Consistency beats talent when talent doesn’t show up.

Relationships matter- invest in people as much as in projects.

It’s okay to reinvent yourself- often, it’s necessary.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re spending time in Miami, you have to come to Miami Beach. Miami Beach is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Beach/pool during the day, dinner south of fifth, so many options, best restaurants in the country.
