We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnna Moser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johnna, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always done crafting then a friend offered me space in her boutique. I was successful there so decided to start doing art shows. At that time I was making jewelry. I was very successful with the jewelry but over time developed arthritis in my hands so I changed mediums a couple of times until I discovered resin.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s been a journey to get to the resin art. I started with floral, did floral arranging for a few years and did well. I still see arrangements I did for friends in their homes but it’s hard to do art shows with florals so I moved on to jewelry. I did several different mediums in jewelry including copper. One of my proudest was a bracelet I made based on a Georgia O’Keefe painting that was featured in a Duncan McClellen show. Then I moved to painted ceramic tiles and from there moved to the resin which I find very fascinating. Resin has a mind of its own so some times it comes out like you expect and sometimes totally different. That’s the excitement of resin. I have entered several pieces in a local art show and sold them. I also have pieces in 2 different gift shops and do well in both. I am physically unable to do the art mart I used to do. I’ve always been successful in what ever medium I have chosen to do. I guess I just have that creative touch.
I will always be creative in some way, I think I was just born that way. Unfortunately I’m physically not able to get out and promote myself as I would like.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’ll St Petersburg is a very artsy community and downtown is definitely a place to visit. Great restaurants like Bella Brava, Social Roost and of course the Vinoy hotel! –
Of course St Pete beach and Pass-a-Grille beach are fun places also with great restaurants and beach bars.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friend Ruth Ann Eaton who always encouraged me and gave me space in her boutique.
