Meet José Luis Ramírez | Contemporary Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with José Luis Ramírez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi José Luis, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose painting because it is my way of life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is characterized because it is extremely corrosive, funny and sinic, and I am excited how each time it manages to reach more places and more and more distant (museums, art fairs, biennials, etc.) and how the public gives its opinion and forms its criteria on it.
I have not yet reached where I want to be, I still have too much to go, however, the moment in which I am now in my career corresponds to the effort of 23 years of continuous work where it is not only painting, it is traveling, to manage, is to contribute, is to learn and teach.
When I left my country I was surprised by the aesthetic visions that exist around the world, which leads me to reflect and measure myself against other artists contemporary to me and their possible realities.
I want you to know that I am an artist 100% dedicated to my profession, that’s what I do and I’ll die painting; and I am also a person who likes dogs very much, I have five and they have also appeared in several of my paintings.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of my favorite places are the countryside and the periphery of the city in which I live which is Durango, Durango in Mexico, and if you visit it certainly could not miss eating some delicious gorditas and drinking a good mezcal from the region.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To all the people who have trusted me and have expressed it by acquiring one of my paintings to be part of their collections.
