We had the good fortune of connecting with josefina barreix and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi josefina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My process is very much crossed by survival, at the moment, I do not live only from my art, and all my deliveries have a share of stress and release. Which is why it makes them very noisy and explosive.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
JSFNBRRX aka Josefina Barreix is a multilayered artist who experiments with sound, performance and technology. She was born in the desert territory of Argentina, La Pampa. She currently lives in Barcelona and is part of musical projects and others dedicated to scientific dissemination. Her next piece, Fractura, was made for a post-pandemic installation for the Haimney Gallery in Barcelona and reissued for this compilation. The word “Sobreviure” is hidden in the piece as a kind of unconscious oracle of a planet in a post-apocalyptic state. Inspired by the feeling of visions, possibilities, worlds and currents. JSFNBRRX is a barcode, one manifestation of a series of manifestations. JSFNBRRX explores her punk identity as one of the voices of the BLANCO TETA project, an experimental rock project, with the aggressiveness and simplicity of punk. Her voice stands out for her style with operatic games, screams, and darkly captivating melodies. Blanco Teta is currently touring Europe and Latin America, currently presenting his latest album Rompe Paga released by the Swiss record label Bongo Joe. She is also part of technological and scientific development projects, she was invited together with her Optical Instrument project to participate in the Abbey Road studio (UK) in 2019, where she presented an immersive system for live performances. Later, that same year she won the award for Best Lighting Installation at the Barcelona Llum Festival Hackathon. Optical Instrument also had presentations at the MUTEK Argentina Festival. JSFNBRRX also collaborated with the sound design of the BAU University that was presented at MUTEK ES. In 2020 Josefina was part of the Berlin Biennial, designing a system and sound piece for the prominent Argentine artist Osias Yanov. She is currently part of the scientific dissemination team of Women in Aerospace Barcelona, a non-profit organization that fights for the dissemination and integration of the aerospace sector in society, led by women and collaborators from the sector.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
all the people who helped me develop my ideas, always from the heart, supporting my visions in Buenos Aires, La Pampa (Argentina, where I am from) and Barcelona, where I currently live.
