We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrain Small and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Terrain, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risks are a necessity in life. However they’re also a very scary part of life. If wasn’t for me taking risks in my life I wouldn’t be nowhere near close to where I am now. When you want to jump into different professions like music and business like me; you have to take those risks. Nothing in life is guaranteed whatsoever. Without taking some risks a lot of doors in life will stay closed. Especially when it comes to the music business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The thing about my music and poetry that sets me apart is the originality of it. I make music and poems based on my own life. I do it as like a way of letting my guard down to help others see they’re not in this world alone. No one does it like me because they can’t. It’s not to be cocky or anything. It’s just the fact that no one has the exact same personality and experiences. But my music and poetry is like a bridge to the world. Something for all people to relate to. I want to be that next step to help people be better. I’m really excited for you all to hear what I have planned coming up. I think I can really change lives and perspectives with what I do. I got where I am right now with hard work and dedication. It’s definitely not easy. To this day I still get stressed about it. I just keep my head up and keep pushing. I’ve learned the value of patience. I also learned the value of acceptance. To accept not everything is gonna go how you want it or accept not everyone will see things how you see it. But it’s ok because I’ll forever be a ComeUp and those are the people I do this for.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely take them to like Brickell Miami. You can’t go wrong there. There’s always something going on there. It’s a great vibe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to recognize my whole family for the role they’ve played. Music has always been included in my life with them. I think that’s how I first identified my love for music. Especially when I first started writing music and let them hear. They always encouraged me to keep perfecting my craft because of my potential. I’d also like to recognize my amazing poetry mentor/teacher Dr Symonette. She’s the only reason I got into the poetry world. I never envisioned myself being successful with poetry. She gave me that push because she had the faith in my capabilities. Now it’s my time to return the favor by going all out. I’d also like to give a shoutout to my mentorship program Kings Of Glory Inc. They’ve played a good part in helping me believe in myself. If it wasn’t for them I don’t know if I’d have the courage to give all these things a shot. They really helped me see my God given blessings for what they are.
