We had the good fortune of connecting with Josefine & Fredye Mendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josefine & Fredye, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our business, “Derme Home,” is our version of a “pandemic baby.” The idea of clean bedding for clear skin came about in the middle of COVID-19 when stress levels were increasing, and daily masks were worn.

Many people, as well as ourselves, experienced “maskne” as a result. So we wanted to create a fabric that helps the skin recover throughout the night and eliminates any bacteria buildup that could cause acne or breakouts on the skin. Derme Home became the solution for that, eliminating 99.9% of bacteria-caused acne, breakouts, pimples, etc.

The thought process behind starting our own business came about after seeing significant improvements in our skin once we upgraded our bedding. We realized quickly that this combination of fabrics is something more people could benefit from daily. Unfortunately, we tend to spend so much money on skincare products and treatments once the acne/breakout has occurred, but we fail to take preventative actions such as clean bedding. We are here in the hopes of leveling up your bedding and, therefore, your skincare game!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a South Florida-based—veteran, women, and family-owned and operated start-up. Our fabric is crafted from 100% organic bamboo and natural silver ions (Ag+), a clinically proven combination to eliminate 99.9% of bacteria and bacteria-caused acne.

“Buy one – Plant one” For each purchase from our Lively (Sage-green) collection, we will plant one happy tree!

What makes us most proud and stand out from our competitors is our technique of bonding our silver ions into our bamboo fibers on a molecular level. This method allows our silver and its antibacterial benefits to remain in the fabric for the product’s lifetime.

Other companies use silver “dye” that will wash off and leak into and harm our environment. This method is not very gentle on our planet or your wallet – as the antibacterial benefits of silver will gradually fade away.

We are also proud to say that we are using the leftover pieces from the production of our bedding to create our packaging bags! As a result, our customers can re-use these bags on multiple occasions.

Last but not least, we have replaced standard paper with our recycled seed paper that can be planted into the earth and grow into a plant.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would kick off the festivities with the fantastic brunch and mimosas at Novikov Miami. After brunch, enjoy a mandatory walk by the water before our next adventure; the museum! Miami has plenty of great museums to offer.

Lastly, we’d like to finish the day with a dinner at our favorite Korean barbecue spot, the Drunken Dragon at Alton Rd. AMAZING!
