We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Miranda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, how do you think about risk?
I feel that taking risks is necessary to get anywhere you want to be. Diving into something and putting all your focus on it tends to find a way to work out. I think people should trust in their ability to figure things out as things come up more. You’ll see that there isn’t much you can’t do or learn how to do, or even get help from someone who knows. If you keep momentum you will see it come to fruition.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is an illustration of a moment in my life and the lessons I’ve learned and the things that helped me learn those lessons. I draw characters in my work in a robotic and futuristic way to try and show my human desire to live forever and a fear of death with our pointless efforts to avoid it. In making great work I will be in some way achieving that goal.

I learned that if you make art about what you know and what is true, you’ll find your people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m the worst at this but I would probably take them to a theme park like Disney World or Busch Gardens because I live in Florida and that’s just the thing everyone does when they visit here. Can’t go wrong with a day kayaking at the springs. Then maybe a day getting drinks at the beach with a night at the Orlando Improv for some laughs. As for places to go eat, I’m gonna have to check Google or Yelp for that!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people I could thank for me being where I am now. God, my family, and everyone that is close to me. I learn so much about myself and about life by being around them all.
