We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Shjerve Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, what inspires you?
I am very inspired by people and their stories. Illustrating those stories though photographs is very fulfilling to me!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art from is photography!

I think that one thing sets me apart is my ability to read people well. This enables me to put people at ease while I photograph them, ensuring that their story is told in an honest, easygoing and beautiful way.

I am really proud of the fact that a huge majority of my clients end up becoming my friends. To me their friendship is a true testament that they feel seen and valued in my work.

I have made it to this point professionally through a lot of hard work and prayer! I am self taught, so there have been years of trial and error, reading and research, and practice, practice practice! It wasn’t easy, but it was absolutely worth it! I have overcome challenges in this field in a lot of different ways, but at the end of the day I just wouldn’t give up! I think that would be wasting a talent that I feel like God has given to me, and that keeps the fire lit!

I think the biggest lesson that I learned along the way is not to compare myself to others and how they do things. Time is better spent developing my own unique style and way of seeing things!

I want people to know that they inspire me and that telling their stories is a gift!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming to Boise for the first time, I would take her to lunch at Atalova and afterwards I would take her to Snake River Tea to shop for loose leaf tea. Then we would go shopping at The Village (an open air mall ) and to little thrift stores around town! We would also have to make a stop at the West Side Drive in for their famous ice cream potatoes!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate this to my family. They are my story! I would also like to dedicate this to my clients who trust me to tell theirs.
