Meet Jovion Curtis | Senior Graphic Designer & Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jovion Curtis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jovion, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is the fact that I’m always putting in the necessary work to get better at my craft and grow more as a professional.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would say what sets me apart from others is how I view design and being a creative, I always try to think outside of the box and any crazy idea that comes to my mind I put it on the canvas and create magic.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come on this journey as a Graphic Designer and the name I made for myself in the industry.

I got to where I am today professionally by putting myself out there and networking with people to let them know what it is that I do every chance I got until eventually, I worked with a few of them. They recommended me to other people they were connected to and finally, word of mouth became my marketing tool. It wasn’t easy but it made me grow a lot. I overcame these challenges by always putting in a lot of work and having conversations with well-connected people who were in need of my services.

The lessons I learned along the way are

1. Always save your work as you go along
2. Clients aren’t your friends even though some of them can be
3. Always take a 50% deposit before starting a project
4. Communicate properly and clearly
5. Take risks

What I want the world to know about me is that I’m self-taught with 11 years of experience

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Peppa Thyme to get food that’s the first thing We would visit a few rivers up in the hills
Hanging can happen anywhere really It can even be at one of the many lookout points around the city
In my view, the most exciting place to check out is the lookout point at jacks hill which gives you a beautiful view of the entire city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

There are so many people that I would like to shout out and give a little credit and recognition in my story, these individuals believed in me and my talent way before I was even a professional in the field.

These persons are Duran, 300K, RDesign World, Danielle Wilson-Riley, Delano, Dina, Dr. Burke and Xavier just to name a few.
