We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Pena and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juan, how do you think about risk?
Risk is a part of the process of success, in order to see success you need to be willing and able to take risks. In my life risks played a huge role. I had to take the risk from being an ordinary guy that works a 9-5 to be able to say forget about the ordinary & jump start to what I love to do which is create music. So I took on an internship where I was not getting paid and over achieved my expectation as an intern and landed a gig working with Dj Khaled.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I’m most proud of is the man that I am today. The growth I’ve obtain throughout the years of me striving to accomplish all my goals and doing what it is I truly love to do which is create music. Now I haven’t reached my final destination but I’m on my way to where I envision my self to be. Just to get to where I’m at I had to make a lot of scarifies and had to give up a lot. When people went out to have fun I stood inside working on my craft making sure I get better by the day. I interned and worked for free for 2 years and putting myself in that situation just pushed me harder to get better and be the best at what I do so when an opportunity presents itself to have a paid gig, I’m ready for it. Throughout life I learned you have to focus on yourself and only yourself because watching what the next person does only takes away from time you could contribute to yourself in being a better version of yourself. You can’t be greedy or selfish in life cause greed and selfishness will slowly deteriorate the incredible person you can become in this world. Every person has their determined destiny and there’s no man that can take away what God has in stored for you, so with that being said fight for what God has for you and align yourself with the purpose that you were made for in this world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not a person that hangs out much cause I’m always working but if I was to I guess take a break I would go to a private island away from human civilization, where its just me and Mother Nature and embrace what God has done in the world. I might go to Turks & Caicos or something like that, some where I could be at peace with myself and not worried everyone else’s problems. The reason I say this is because the music industry consumes a lot of your time so there are times where you don’t want to deal with people where you just want to be alone and embrace where you at and what you have accomplished so far. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I got to give a special shoutout to God first leading the way and making sure I’m on the path where I’m destined to be in. Then I want to give a special shoutout to the people who open the doors for me and made sure all the hard work and labor I put in I was compensated for which is Cool & Dre. Those are angels sent from God to me, it’s how see them. They made sure I was put in a position to win and til this day I know I could reach out to them and whatever I need they’ll do their best to make sure I’m taking care of. Also I want to thank Dj Khaled and the whole WeTheBest family because they embraced me from day 1 & made me feel like family from day 1. Dj Khaled gave me the platform in which I have now its why people I don’t know know me and its all cause of the platform Dj Khaled has put me in from all his social media outlets to events and studio sessions with A-List celebrities. Then I would like to give a special shoutout to the people that stood by my side when I had nothing and I was just an intern trying to make a name for myself. I want to shoutout my dad Juan Sr., my cousin Kiko, Pat AKA Culture, and Diana AKA D. These people played a crucial role in my success I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in if it was for those people in my life. Lastly I would like to thank those that didn’t believe me or dislike me for any sort of reason because they gave me the strength to prove them wrong and I haven’t even scratched the surface of where I’m heading its only the beginning.
These are my pictures and I have every right for them.
