We had the good fortune of connecting with jules penn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi jules, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Was just to have somewhere kids come and Learn the game of basketball. I have 3 sons and never really had nowhere for them to learn the basic fundamentals of the game which is why I started my business especially with the younger age group.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated from Johnson and Wales university with a B.A. in Criminal Justice where I also was a part of the Men’s Basketball Team. I worked in the law enforcement field for over 5 years. I loved it but it was just not my passion. My passion has always been with helping young adults,— young kids and setting up a foundation to help them succeed in whatever it was they chose to do in life. I currently coach at Miami Country Day highschool and I’m going into my 10th year with the program. Overall the kids keep me young and watching them grow up to be young Men and young ladies and being apart of their journey is the ultimate accomplishment.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love going to the hard rock hotel where they have a variety of different things to do. So that would be the place we go out to have a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, My boy Ralph Mata. Who is part ownership of the SOH Elite travel basketball program. He was the one who pretty much launched everything forward for me. He always seen me working with my sons working with his sons and just could tell that I had passion for it. Sometimes you need to hear it from someone else to move forward and he was that for me. So A lot of credit goes to him.
