Meet Julia Poliadis | South Florida’s GREEN Realtor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Poliadis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I use real estate as a pathway to sustainable education. As a realtor, it is important to me to protect and preserve our ecosystems as this is a main attraction to living in South Florida. As more residents continue to move here and our population grows, this causes stress on our resources and natural habitats. By providing resources and education to my sphere of influence it gives me the ability to stimulate change whether it’s in a community or one on one. Real estate is a relationship based business, therefore I am able to engage in conversations that will plant a seed to create long term change. I like to focus on waste reduction via composting as South Florida has a major waste issue as our population continues to multiply year over year since 2020. We also have access to farmers which allows use to reduce our carbon footprint and supports the local economy. Many people don’t know what a CSA and this is something I like to speak about in my conversations and educational outreach.

What should our readers know about your business?
Real estate is not easy, even though the general public may think we may just open doors and get paid big checks. My background in management and managerial experience gave me the foundation to run my own business. Being organized and professional is so important for me personally and in my field of work. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to the Fertile Earth Worm Farm founded by Dr. Lanette Sobel. After volunteering for her non-profit over 10 years ago, I dove deep into the world of sustainability which opened my eyes to so much. I became a member of the US Green Building council which focuses on LEED certifications and energy efficiency in building structures. I have also volunteered for several other organizations for hands on experience focused on our waste issue’s in South Florida. I also joined the Sustainability Advisory Committee of Hollywood and have sat as Chair for the last 2 years. Dr. Sobel was the catalyst for the change in the way I live and I have been composting ever since I have found out about what this is. As a city girl, I was never exposed to composting or anything related to sustainability. I have since diverted over 20,000 lbs of my food waste from going to the landfill. That’s goes to show how one person can make a ripple.
