We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Zats and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was kind of second nature to me! It started with a love for graphic design and crafting that turned into me opening my first Etsy store, and I just kept leveling up from there. I taught myself social media management and influencer marketing along the way and it only felt right that I shared my knowledge with others. This led to me opening my latest business, Sparkle Social Co, where I help small businesses and influencers grow their empires. It’s extremely fulfilling sharing my knowledge with others and seeing these businesses and influencers succeed from the help and guidance I’ve provided.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m not embarrassed to put myself out there, both personally and professionally. I believe if you want to succeed in the online social media space, you need to express who you truly are and the right audience will find its way to you.
What started all of this for me was pursuing influencing as a hula hooper around 6 years ago. It helped me grow a following online, and with that following, I was able to share my first small business which was an Etsy store selling handmade stickers and apparel. People were extremely supportive and rocket launched my business which I had only imagined in my dreams. At the same time I was running my business, I was getting reached out to by big brands for collaborations to help promote their products as an influencer.
None of it was easy. I was extremely busy running my business, pursuing being an influencer, and at the time, I was still in college studying. I never knew what I wanted to major in though, and hopped around to different schools until ultimately, I dropped out. My true passion wasn’t going to school and getting a degree. My passion was hustling in every way I could to make it. 6 years later, and here I am. I made it! It was a struggle for sure, but absolutely worth it. Every little problem I encountered along the way led me exactly to where I needed to go.
What I want the world to know about my story is that you should never give up. If one thing fails, just keep trying. Something will work out for you eventually as long as you put in the work and stay consistent with your goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For fun: We would hit up DisneyWorld or Universal Studios for a day or two. Maybe even a weekend trip to Sarasota or Miami for a little getaway. We would definitely hit up the beach. That’s a no-brainer. The weather in Florida is too beautiful not to!
For food: There is so much amazing local food in Florida, but my favorite restaurant of them all is Frenchy’s in Clearwater. They’re located all over (and on the beach) which is so convenient, and the food is incredibly delicious. I also love a lot of the local restaurants in St. Petersburg. The food options are never-ending there!
For shopping: We would hit up local stores in St. Pete, Tampa, and Miami! You can never go wrong with a little shopping, especially for souvenirs!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout-out to all the businesses and influencers I’ve had the pleasure of working with. There are a lot, so I’ll spare the names, but you all know who you are! Through each person I’ve worked with, I’ve learned and grown so much, and I thank you all for believing in me! None of this would have been possible without you!
