We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Saez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is something that people tend to fear because they are afraid of failure. Whenever I’ve been afraid of failing, I’ve always told myself “you’ll always miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” and it motivates me to take the risk, every single time. I love a challenge and I’m always looking to find something new and exciting to try. I love to learn new things and accomplishing something new makes me feel whole. But starting my own business was a huge, HUGE risk for me to take. Especially during the COVID quarantine no less. When people were jobless, making no income, and there was an overall worldwide crisis happening. But I utilized my extra time to myself to build a brand. And as crazy as it sounds, I wasn’t even trying to build a brand. I was just trying to create a few styles to see if they would sell and 6 months after I launched VANNA SWIMWEAR, Miami Swim Fashion Week contacted my brand and asked us to be apart of the production. So you never truly know where your ideas can take you. Although it might be risky and give you fear, at least you can say you tried rather than saying “I wish I would have done that.”

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
VANNA SWIMWEAR is a luxury swimwear brand with a diverse range of sizes. We carry sizes XS-XL. There are not many luxury swimwear brands that carry that wide of a variety of sizes. I have many friends who are a size large and they tell me that they can never find swimwear that is larger than a size large unless you go to typical generic stores such as Target, Old Navy, Walmart, etc. My friends want luxurious swimwear that is made well. And the unfortunate thing is, a lot of times, swimwear tends to run small. So even if you buy a size large, it probably fits like a medium. I created a wide range of sizes so everyone feels included to luxury swimwear.

Throughout this whole process, I’ve learned that in order to have a business, you have to have a lot of time for it. I ended up having to quit my day job and pursuing this full-time. None of this was easy. Especially being that I never went to college for fashion, design, or business… but it was 100% worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Watr at 1 Hotel Rooftop. That’s my favorite place to go! Sugar at East Miami is also beautiful. I’m not a huge club/partying kind of gal but I can go for it every once in a while if my friends convince me to. I’m more of a “let’s go somewhere beautiful and enjoy the scenery and vibe” kinda gal. There are so many beautiful locations in Miami to just chill and enjoy yourself, the list could be endless. Then again, all you need is good company. You don’t really need to go anywhere if you have the right people. Just grab a bottle of champagne, some snacks, and a blanket and hang out at the beach with some music and look at the stars!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my parents for always pushing me to be the best I could be. They have always supported me in everything I have accomplished and still love me for the things I have failed at. I love and appreciate you so much. Thank you for always being there for me. Leaving you behind in New Jersey for me to come to Miami and accomplish everything I’ve always wanted to do was one of the hardest things for me to do.

Thank you to Miami Swim Fashion Week and DCSW for seeing the potential in me and my brand. It meant the absolute world to me to be there within a year of launching my brand and I had the best experience of my life at Swim Week.

Thank you to my best friends in New Jersey. Josh, Crystal, Kristen, Michelle, Rachael, Lauren, Kasey, and Alexa. I’ve known many of you since I was very young and I love you so much and I’m grateful for all of the great memories we have together. Thank you for your continued love, motivation, and support. You guys are amazing.

Thank you to Lulu, my spiritual mentor. The one who has helped me get through my times of doubt and has guided me through them. I have been through a lot and I wouldn’t be as grounded and well balanced without you.

Thank you to my best friend in Miami, my soul sister, Brody. I met you months ago and it feels like we have known each other for 10 years. You motivate me everyday to be the best I could be and have helped me become the person that I am today. I love and appreciate you more than you’ll ever know.
