We had the good fortune of connecting with Juline Samuels and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juline, what do you attribute your success to?
My approach to interior design is consultative, not just creating designs. Spending more time listening to a client helps to shape thoughts and ideas that resonate with their personality, not just their eyes. Also, many interior designers deliver their work with a focus on satisfying vendors, pushing assets that may not be the best fit for their client – in other words, their business relationships furniture or accessory designers become an equal consideration to the client relationships. I have worked diligently to keep my client interests first. Even if their desires don’t reflect current design ideas or trends, my goal is to educate my clients, understand their desires, and deliver stellar designs that exceed expectations. Because of this, my clients routinely compliment my approach to work, and the results I deliver. Staying true to the client first and foremost has been the most important factor behind my success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
With more than twenty years in fashion and decor, I combine my experiences to create a unique approach to interior design that merges aesthetics catering to all five senses. With a portfolio of projects spanning commercial and private spaces of all sizes, I offer a perspective on interior design that brings the vision of international beauty and excellence to my clients. Interior design has been a life-long passion as long as I can remember, practicing by creating new looks and designs in our home as a young girl.

After establishing myself as a prominent model in my native country of Jamaica, I was noticed by the Ford Modeling Agency and moved to New York City to further my international modeling career and continue exploring my growing passion for interior design. This commitment proved pivotal in my career, as Interior Design slowly moved to the forefront of my time and attention and became the focus of my academic studies at Parsons School of Design in New York City.

I began her design career moving to Germany to work for a leading architecture and design firm. I took on my first project as a staff designer, contributing to the design development for a 9,000 sq ft home for a prominent international family seeking a synergistic aesthetic across the entire space. After receiving recognition for my contributions to a “beautiful aesthetic that captures the energy and vision of the owner, undoubtedly combining her eye for fashion and design”, I was tasked as the lead designer for several private and commercial spaces ranging from single rooms to entire homes. From this experience I gained notoriety for my unique vision combining aspects of fashion and decor, and soon developed my own approach to interior design. In yet another move seeking the challenge of creating designs through my own firm, I turned to entrepreneurship, returning to the United States, and founding JS Décor, where I continued to create timeless designs and spaces for customers around the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend were to visit me in Fort Lauderdale, I would first take them to beaches to experience the more common locations of the city. Another day I would schedule a day of boating on the Intercostal Water Way, where we have the scenery of beautiful homes, observing the designs and aesthetics of Florida architectures, exploring various restaurants that offer stunning views, and Las Olas Boulevard for shopping and relaxation along the way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother was my first and most important influence in my career. From an early age my mother encouraged me to be respectfully curious and creative with my style. She taught me to see the potential beauty in things, not just what they looked like at the current moment. Her encouragement led me to my fashion modeling career, where my understanding of fashion (coordination of style, color, palettes, shapes, designs and schemes) really developed. My mother, in combination with modeling, created a passion for creating designs that were visually stunning, and evoked feelings of calm, comfort and safety. I would love to recognize these two, as they are still at the foundation of what I do every day in interior design.
