We had the good fortune of connecting with Junior Poveda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Junior, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I’m a simple person. Get me a nice guitar, some samples, drum sounds, Ableton Live, and a solid computer built with the latest and greatest parts! Alright so maybe not too simple, haha! Making music is what makes me happy! Right from the start, when I’m looking for a new kick, I’m making a solid bass line in my head, all with a massive smile on face. Just thinking about the possibilities with every new sound I listen too is enough to crack a smile. Finding new music and listening to a song that makes you feel some type of way, is a feeling I love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a music producer/dj that mainly produces and plays electronic music. The music ranges from Disco to House and Tech House to Techno. Most of my music productions have a Latin flavor that I’ve learned to love since I first started making music. Being from Miami, it was almost impossible for me not to love the Latin drums and the culture along with it. I want to say there’s one track that I’m proud of but there have been so many that it’s hard for me to say. They all have a unique sound and are almost never the same. From the Spanish grooves to the sultry vocals, there’s something in every song that I appreciate. I’d say the fact that these tracks are different makes me feel proud of what I’ve done over the years and not bending to the status quo of what’s expected is definitely a plus.

It has definitely been a rocky road over the years. As a music producer, you constantly want to perfect your craft and always try to push yourself along the way. That can lead to massive writer’s block and starts a mental cycle that’s not easy to deal with. But the bright side about this is when you finally breakthrough that mental block. The confidence and creative juices flow and everything just feels like it’s in the right place and I’m in the right time. You just have to keep pushing and not give up, even when it feels like its not going your way. I’m not going anywhere, and I’m always going to be making the music I love for years to come!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami has plenty to offer, especially if you’re into the nightlife. My favorite place to go to for that is Club Space. You’ll find the most interesting yet chill people there, and all of them are there for mostly one reason, the music! They play House, Tech-House, Techno, and anything electronic throughout the night. Oh and don’t worry about the time, they tend to party all through the weekend when the vibe is right. After that, a nice afternoon at the beach can help you relax and get that sunshine! If there is one place I can recommend for some quick yet savory food, it is the restaurant called “Fritanga Caña Brava”. They serve delicious Nicaraguan food and you definitely won’t be disappointed, trust me! I’ve been going there for years, ever since they were a little hole in the wall, so they know what they’re doing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can’t pick just one person in my life as there have been many great people who have helped me along the way. Definitely have to give a huge shoutout to my family! They are my number one supporters and have been since day one! From the moment I told them this was what I wanted, they’ve been pushing me to keep moving forward! Big Shout out to the Lost Minds Records crew in Miami for the love and providing that inspiration in the studio. Finally, Shoutout to the collaborators I’ve worked with over the years too. They are all talented artists and the music keeps speaking for it self.
