We had the good fortune of connecting with Kara Hazirjian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kara, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
A few goals of mine professionally are traveling to Europe in the summers for continued education. Clients having ease in finding my expertise no matter where I travel or reside.
Collaborating with other creatives: photographers, stylists, dancers, makeup artists: I value community. Which means to me: a place with shared passion and drive, in addition to helping one another out in a shared success.
Building connections with clients, deep conversations, serving people. The support I have always felt from clients, I hope to give that back. It’s not measured in material terms but an internal content. This is fulfillment for me and an end goal.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My path in my career has been about finding creativity. After year 7, I was completely overworked, burnt out and going through the motions. What I thought was the height of my career. Shortly after I started in a new salon. Learning about French Balayage techniques was the most creative freedom I had thus far in doing hair. This forever changed the trajectory for me. I traveled to Dessange in France to study more on balayage highlighting. I remember one term a teacher in school used to say “cookie cutter hairstylist”. She spoke about each new client being a fresh canvas, with unique qualities. This term stuck with me, but the importance of it did not click until I saw others working in complete presence with their creativity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I feel very lucky to be living next to the Botanical Gardens on the beach. It’s a beautiful way to connect to nature. A few restaurants that are a favorite of mine: Casa Tua, Mandolin, Le Zoo.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have an amazing support system in my life: my sister, friends and clients. Friends who have become family. Clients who have become friends. Previous bosses and colleagues for the freedom and encouragement on my path. Thankful to have met the people in my life whom have nourished our relationships. I dedicate my shoutout to the conversations had with those beautiful, open hearted people.
