We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina Espinosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Since a young age I would watch my parents run their own business and saw how hard they worked on a daily basis which pushed me to want to work even harder so I would be able to have a company of my own one day.

I was determined to do something I truly enjoyed without having to feel dreadful for going to work so once I realized interior design was my calling I started my career. After enough time of gaining experience and knowledge out in the field I felt ready to launch my design company, KE Design.

Design has been part of my entire life and getting to build a business around something that I’m so passionate about is truly a blessing that I don’t take for granted and will continue to work hard for.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company, KE Design, provides full interior design services, window treatments, and custom furniture needs for residential spaces and commercial buildings. Specializing in interiors that include a style combination of modern and transitional elements, with an organic touch and great attention to detail that resemble the clients aesthetic. At KE Design, we create timeless spaces from large scale to small areas that simply need to be refreshed. We will walk our clients through an enjoyable process to ensure their vision and needs come to life in their newly designed homes.

I am here today by working extremely hard, making sacrifices, putting my priorities in order and keeping my vision clear. Once you become a business owner you are in work mode 24/7. Being responsive to clients and vendors is key as this is what builds amazing connections. Appreciate all the good and difficult moments as they are each learning experiences to help grow. Most importantly, applying a positive mindset towards everything you do has a huge impact on the results.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being out by the water, under the sun, enjoying a refreshing drink is a must here in Miami. There is so much to do whether it’s lounging on the sand by the beach, going out in the ocean on a boat ride, or even heading down to the keys for more of a tropical escape.

Other than enjoying the outdoors, trying new dishes in different restaurants is a great way to expand your palette.
Some of my favorite options to go eat and drink with great scenery are; The Deck at Island Gardens, La Mar, Regatta Grove, Mila, and Cipriani. Some must try sushi spots include; Uchi, Omakai, Katana, and Paperfish.

Don’t forget to get a Cuban cafecito and croqueta, it is Miami!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been so many people who have had some sort of influence in my life and this shoutout is dedicated to them. To everyone who continues to support me on my journey. My loved ones who constantly motivate me and remind me to stay focused on accomplishing my goals. And to my angel watching over me, my mom, she really did instill the passion and drive that I have for design. I will always cherish everything she taught me and those values continue to be applied in everything I do.
