Meet Karla Korn | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Korn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karla, how do you think about risk?
I would rather look back and regret what I did do, not what I didn’t do. I’m the kind of person that needs to experience the outcome of my decisions to make more educated decisions in the future. If it’s all theoretical, you never truly know the payout. That way my experiences compound on itself to make a portfolio of better decisions instead of just daydreaming about what could have been. There was a whole list of risks I took as a business owner, where to advertise, how to connect to people in the industry…etc. I would say the biggest risk struggle I have is which jobs to accept, and which to reject. It’s something I deal with every day. I’m of the mindset to accept everything that comes my way. I’m learning now, that’s not possible in order to have a life outside of work. I’m learning what “work smarter, not harder” means to me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The thing I love most about my photography is that it’s timeless. I take inspiration from weddings way back when and pick apart the images that lasted throughout time. I don’t like the idea of trendy photos because they will be out dated within 5 years. I focus on true emotions and a classic feel. That way when generations look upon those same images – they can get a true sense of what life was like. Almost when cameras first become available to the public, the people in the photos didn’t do what was trendy, they did what they knew, their genuine self. It’s one of my favorite things.
Getting to where I am in my business was not easy – I don’t know a single person who would say it was ‘easy’. Overcoming challenges just came with the job. Wether I did it gracefully or not, it happened and I had to deal with it. Most the time I couldn’t predict the challenges and I had to master it on the fly. It taught me humility, which I think is my greatest strength.
I want to world to know that I’m in this business for the creative aspect of it. I love photographing faces. Everything else, I reluctantly accepted.
