We had the good fortune of connecting with Karolina Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karolina, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My name is Karolina (Karol) Torres, and I came from Brazil. I initially came to work on an audit for a remittance company here in Florida. They liked my service and decided to hire me permanently. The immigration process was not an easy one and I ended up not getting the working visa. In the meaning time, I also applied for the green card lottery, which Brazil was still part of it. And that is how I became a permanent resident and lately am American Citizen. The company I worked for closed, due to the “9/11″impact and I continued living here, working as a banker. My career in Banking was a very successful one, and because of the contacts I made, clients would come to me for helping with different matters, like passport renewal, answer letters, and help with other Brazilian documents. That gave an idea of opening a business to take care of those things… Since I had my degree from Brazil and post graduation in US, I dedicated also to accounting, helping the immigrants on setting up and taking care of their finances. Nowadays, my company is well known for helping, specially immigrants, to take care of their daily finances and documents.

What should our readers know about your business?
It takes time, lots of efforts, study and continuous apprenticeship to start and grow your own business. Also, the confidence of clients, the trust they have on you, that help on the success. My segment is unique, because I participate in various phases of my client’s lives, guiding them in their professional matter and personal, from the processes of immigration, preparation of documents to be in compliance with their country, through the beginning and growth of their businesses, to marriage, birth of children, and many more… It is very rewarding to see successful lives that started with me, to see their children starting their own lives, to see them referring my company to their friends and family, and knowing that the processes are done correctly, knowing that I am influencing their lives, their futures. It brings me joy to see them grow, to see that I am useful on guiding them in the right direction.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Florida is a very beautiful state with lots of places to enjoy, such as the beaches at the Keys, or at the golf coast, like Marco Island, Sarasota, and many others, the Springs, like Ginnie Springs, Crystal River, Juniper Springs, etc. Also, visit Saint Augustine, whit all the history that surrounds the place, the magic during Christmas time, or the small towns that have the enchantment of ranches and opportunities to have a little bit of country side to enjoy, Miami Beach and Delray Beach, with their nights of entertainment, Orlando, with Disney and Universal and many other places…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All my success is based on the help of family and friends, who recognized how important is to start in a different country knowing the steps for succeeding. My husband and daughter had the patience to go through all the process of opening the business, the struggle to construct a solid enterprise, and my friends to help spread the word of my accomplishments. My business started very small in the storage room of my church and I had to drive Uber to help with the expenses. It was not long after, I was able to rent my space and work on my marketing to show other people the work I was developing. And running my business with honesty, brought customers that were lost in the process of either starting their own companies, or developing them.
