We had the good fortune of connecting with Karrita Renzelmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karrita, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?

Flower gardening and creating pottery are more than just hobbies for me. They are manifestations of my inner self and sources of happiness and fulfillment. They enable me to be creative, to connect with nature, and to celebrate the beauty of life.

Making pottery fills me with wonder and comfort as I make unique and personal things for the home & garden. Pottery allows me to express my emotions and personality. It also helps me to convey my thoughts and feelings without words.

Gardening brings me joy and peace as I care for living and precious things. I marvel at the flowers as they blossom and thrive, and I delight in their fragrance. Gardening gives me a sense of achievement and gratification. It also helps me to restore my energy and find tranquility in solitude.

Both flower gardening and creating pottery are relaxing and enjoyable. They reveal who I am and what I love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The inspiration for Queen Bee Pottery is a combination of my love of nature, gardening, and creating beautiful ceramic art for the home and garden that I wish to share with others. A small part of me goes into every one of these unique and distinctive pieces. Working in the studio creating new treasures is as exciting and gratifying as planting a new seed and watching it come to life. Many of my pottery pieces are created by incorporating fresh flowers, leaves and vines gathered from my garden into each design.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My pottery journey began when my husband, Steve, gave me a pottery wheel as a birthday gift. This led to taking ceramics classes at Broward College where Professor Jim Lansing taught me the basics of pottery skills. I give much gratitude to ceramic artist, Jan Kolenda, for teaching me how to make relief tiles and molds. The process of making my own molds from plants and such found in nature has been the strongest influence in my pottery journey thus far.
