We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Durand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
YO BK is a Hot Yoga and Pilates studio with locations in Brooklyn and Miami. We opened in 2015 as a Bikram Yoga studio and have expanded our offerings greatly since then. We now provide 150+ weekly classes in a variety of modalities, from HIIT training to Restorative Yoga. What sets us apart is the range of class styles we offer, so students can cross-train in one great community. Our teachers are excellent, our spaces are welcoming and fun, our studios feel like home. People come here to feel good and create a positive impact on their lives off the mat.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Brooklyn and travel to Miami for short work trips, so most of my time is spent at YO BK Wynwood and our partner cafe, Novela, located inside Oasis Wynwood. I love that I can be inside or outdoors and spend my day chatting with friends and getting work done. Margot Wine Bar in downtown Miami is my team’s favorite after-work spot for natural wine and tapas.
I don’t even want to share this but Fiorito is an amazing, casual and fun Argentinian steakhouse. My husband is South American and we are very happy there!
While South Beach is not always my favorite, I recommend to everyone to wake up early on a weekday and get to the beach!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The biggest hat I wear is as an employer, and I dedicate this shoutout with gratitude to every person I have worked with at YO BK. I have learned so much from each of them.
